Shanxi University is one of the institutions of higher learning with a long history in China. It is a national "double-class" university, which is jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Shanxi Provincial People's Government.
The school's predecessor was Shanxi University Hall, which was founded in 1902. Its long history can be traced back to Jinyang Academy, Lisan Academy and Lingdetang Academy in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The School of Translation of Shanxi University, founded by the school, is the second translation school founded by China Modern University, which has effectively promoted the cultural exchange between China and the West. In the 1920s and 1930s, Shanxi University was famous for its large number of places and talented people. From War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression to the eve of the founding of New China, Shanxi University traveled to many places and persisted in running schools. Many teachers and students participated in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, participated in the democratic revolution, and gave their blood and lives for national independence and people's liberation.
