Changchun University of Technology was founded in 1952. Changchun Automobile Industry School was established in the early days for the preparation of China No.1 Automobile Factory. It has experienced the development stages of Changchun Automobile Manufacturing School, Jilin Institute of Technology and Jilin Institute of Technology.

Jilin Institute of Technology and Jilin University of Technology merged in June 1970, 10 resumed studies 1978. In September 2000, Changchun Coal Industry School, Changchun Coal Management Cadre College and Jilin Light Industry Design School merged. In March 2002, it was renamed Changchun University of Technology.
