Learning materials include printed materials, audio and video tapes, VCD materials, multimedia courseware, etc. The mode of combining face-to-face instruction with self-study: This mode is adopted by most majors in Tsinghua, Peking University, Hunan University, Southeast University and Zhejiang University Network College.

Autonomous learning mode: Without fixed teaching points and teaching hours, students can study anywhere with Internet access. For example, the network college of China Renmin University adopts the mode of "self-study teaching materials+self-study courseware+homework+question-answering discussion+examination". On the basis of self-taught teaching materials and multimedia courseware, students answer questions and discuss online, do homework and give course guidance, take part in the roving face-to-face tutoring at the teaching point of the network college, and finally take the exam at the local teaching point. This model requires students to have strong autonomous learning ability and the conditions and basic skills of computer network application.

Full-time face-to-face learning model: this is the same model as full-time teaching. Peking University distance education senior high school undergraduate majors implement full-time study, and full-time students implement day study in principle. Computer science and technology, law and other four majors in Zhejiang University Network College require students to study full-time, and the enrollment targets are high school graduates who take the general college entrance examination.
