Tongji University, referred to as "Tongji" for short, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly established with Shanghai. National "World-class University Construction University", National "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project" Construction University.
Tongji University was formerly the German Medical College founded by German doctor paulun erich in 1907. 1908 was renamed Tongji Wende yiguang; 19 12, together with the newly established Tongji Devon Medical College, is called Tongji Devon Medical College; Tongji University was officially named1923; 1927 National Tongji University, one of the seven earliest national universities in China.
As of May, 20021,the school has 29 professional colleges and 9 affiliated hospitals. The four campuses cover an area of 3,960 mu, with a total construction area of 1.83 million square meters. Full-time undergraduate students 185 10, graduate students 165438, doctoral students 65 14. There are also 2225 international students.
