2. Xiamen (formerly Tongan County, Quanzhou), referred to as "Xiamen" or "Egret Island" for short, is one of the ethnic cities in southern Fujian, a sub-provincial city in Fujian Province, a China Special Economic Zone approved by the State Council, and an important central city, port and scenic tourist city along the southeast coast.
Xiamen is located in the east of China and the southeast of Fujian Province. It is a national comprehensive reform pilot zone, a national logistics hub, a southeast international shipping center, a free trade pilot zone and a national marine economic development demonstration zone. It will become a demonstration zone for cross-strait cooperation in emerging industries and modern service industries, a regional financial service center and a cross-strait trade center. It consists of Xiamen Island (Xiamen Island), Gulangyu Island, Haicang Peninsula on the west coast, Jimei Peninsula on the north coast, Xiang 'an Peninsula on the east coast, Dalong Island, Tongan Island and Jiulong River inland, with a land area of 1699.39 square kilometers and a sea area of more than 390 square kilometers. Xiamen is a popular Minnan language, and together with Zhangzhou and Quanzhou, it is an integral part of Minnan language.
