Euphemism is not only a linguistic phenomenon, but also a social linguistic phenomenon. In communication, through it, avoid the language being too straightforward and causing harm to the other party. At the same time, in political affairs, it also plays a certain role in covering up certain behaviors. Only by carefully studying euphemism, especially its wider usage in English, can we understand it more accurately and use it properly.

Euphemism in English comes from Greek. The prefix "eu-" means "good", the stem "phemism" means "speech", and the whole literal meaning means "auspicious words" or "kind words". This is the purpose of euphemism-to express some unpleasant things in euphemism and gentle words. This paper will discuss the usage of euphemism in English from the following aspects. 1. taboo "taboo" is the main psychological basis of euphemism, and different cultural backgrounds will produce completely different language taboos. For example, there is a concept in China culture that "unfilial has three sons, and no offspring is the biggest", so it is taboo to be too deep for men without family background.
