Sri Lanka implements the British education system and has nearly 50 higher education institutions. These universities are divided into public universities, open universities and higher professional schools. Among them, university education can be awarded bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Colleges and universities generally implement the credit system of one academic year, two semesters and two courses. Generally, it takes three years to get a bachelor's degree, two years for a master's degree 1 and three years for a doctor's degree.
