University of Toronto (UofT) is located in Toronto, the capital of Ontario, Canada. It is a public federal university and a research university. University of Toronto, formerly King's College, was founded in 1827.
It was one of the earliest institutions of higher learning established in Canada during the British colonial era. 1849, King's College broke away from the Anglican Church, was no longer a religious university, and was renamed "University of Toronto". The University of Toronto has always been a leader in academic and research. Its funds, donations, national professor awards, research and publication, and library collection are all the highest in Canada.
Its main contributions in the past century include the discovery of insulin and stem cells, the invention of electronic pacemakers, multi-touch technology, electron microscopy, T cell replication, flight suits, and the discovery of the first certified black hole. The University of Toronto ranked 34th in the 2023QS World University Ranking and 22nd in the academic ranking of world universities in 2022.
Times Higher Education World University ranked 18 in 2022, and News World University ranked 16 in 2022. The University of Toronto is also one of the only two non-American universities in the association of american universities, and has been selected into the British Government's "Visa Program for High Potential Talents". The University of Toronto has three campuses: St George's Campus (UTSG), scarborough Campus (UTSC) and Mississauga Campus (UTM)*** consisting of 1 1 colleges.
