It depends on your entrance exam. Only the third and fourth volumes of English in Polytechnic University are compulsory, while the first and second volumes are optional. If you pass 1 or 2 in the entrance exam, English in the first semester of freshman is optional and has credits, but even if you don't get 3.5 credits, you can make it up through other courses without having to make up the exam. If you fail the third and fourth volumes, you must make up the exam and pass.
