The school was approved by the Ministry of Education on April 6, 20 13, and was formed by the merger of the former Guangxi Institute of Technology and the former Liuzhou Medical College. It is an ordinary institution of higher learning specializing in engineering, management, science, medicine, economics, literature, law, art and teaching, and is directly under the management of the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
