Suzhou University is located in Suzhou, a famous historical and cultural city known as "paradise on earth". It is one of the first universities listed in the national "2 1 1 project" and "201/plan". It is a "double-class" university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province.
Soochow University, formerly known as Suzhou University (Soochow University, founded in 1900), pioneered modern higher education and blended the essence of Chinese and western cultures. It is the first university in China to establish a modern university discipline system. In the history of higher education in China, Soochow University is the first university to develop postgraduate education, award master's degrees, develop professional education in law (Anglo-American law) and establish periodicals.
1952, the departments of Chinese mainland were adjusted, and the College of Arts and Sciences of Soochow University, the School of Culture and Education of Sunan and the Department of Mathematics and Physics of Jiangnan University merged to form Sunan Normal University, which was renamed Jiangsu Normal University in the same year. 1982, the school was renamed Soochow University. Subsequently, Suzhou Sericulture Institute (1995), Suzhou Silk Vocational and Technical College (1997) and Suzhou Medical College (2000) were merged into Suzhou University.
