Harbin Military Industry, founded during the Korean War, is the first higher military engineering college in New China. Its outstanding achievements in running schools have set up a monument in the history of national defense science and technology and higher education in China. 1970 The main body of the college moved to Changsha and was renamed Changsha Institute of Technology. 1978, converted into National University of Defense Technology of PLA.

The school has formed a comprehensive discipline system of "focusing on engineering, combining science, engineering, military and literature, strengthening the foundation and implementing the project", covering eight categories, including science, engineering, military science, management, philosophy, economics, law and literature, with 46 undergraduate education majors, 26 authorized points for master's degrees in first-class disciplines and 23 authorized points for doctoral degrees in first-class disciplines.
In the fourth round of the overall level evaluation of national first-level disciplines, the school obtained 8 A-level disciplines, including 4 A+ disciplines, 3 A-level disciplines, 1 A+ disciplines, and1A+disciplines in national universities. Five disciplines, including information and communication engineering, computer science and technology, aerospace science and technology, software engineering, management science and engineering, were selected into the national "double-class" construction discipline list.
