Nanjing University of Technology is the first batch of national key construction universities under the "20 1 1 Plan" and "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan", and also the provincial key construction universities under the provincial government's key construction and the comprehensive reform pilot in Jiangsu Province.

The school was formed by the merger of Nanjing University of Chemical Technology, the former Ministry of Chemical Industry, and Nanjing Institute of Architecture and Engineering, the former Ministry of Construction. The predecessor of Nanjing University of Chemical Technology can be traced back to Sanjiang Normal School, which was founded in 1902. The predecessor of the former Nanjing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture can be traced back to Tongji Medical College, which was founded in 19 15.

By June 20 14, the school had Model Road Campus and Jiangpu Campus, with a total area of more than 4,000 mu (about 2.67 million square meters) and 26 colleges (departments).

"Advanced Biochemical Manufacturing Collaborative Innovation Center" is one of the first batch of 14 national collaborative innovation centers approved by the state.
