The main campus of Donghua Institute of Technology (east china institute of technology) is located in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, and it is the first institution of higher learning in China's nuclear industry. It is jointly built by the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government, the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the Ministry of Natural Resources and China National Nuclear Corporation, and has the characteristics of geoscience and nuclear science.

A multidisciplinary university focusing on science and engineering, integrating economics, management, literature, law, teaching and art, is a pilot university of the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" of the Ministry of Education, and the "11plan" of the Ministry of Education has been selected as a university. It is a doctoral degree awarding unit, a national defense education characteristic school, a selection and training base for non-commissioned officers of the Chinese People's Navy and China National Nuclear Corporation.

The school's predecessor was Taigu Geological School, which was founded in 1956. 1958 moved to Taiyuan and changed its name to Taiyuan Institute of Geology (undergraduate); 1959 moved to Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province, and was renamed Fuzhou Institute of Geology; 1978 was renamed Fuzhou Institute of Geology.

1982 was renamed East China Institute of Geology; In 2002, it was renamed Donghua Institute of Technology; In 2002 and 2003, Jiangxi National Defense Science and Technology Industry School and Fuzhou Teachers College merged successively. In 2007, it was renamed Donghua Institute of Technology.

The school invited more than 200 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad, including Nobel Prize winners, academicians of China Academy of Sciences, academicians of China Academy of Engineering, academicians of American Academy of Sciences, academicians of Russian Academy of Sciences, and advisers to the Russian President, as visiting professors.
