Background:
In ancient times, "teachers" had to pass the exam when they took up their posts. "Entrance Examination" records: "All doctoral assistants count how much they taught in that year, which is the result of the examination." (PhDs and teaching assistants are evaluated according to the number of lectures in that year. In the architecture of imperial academy in the Han Dynasty, imperial academy had a tradition of "being strict in choosing teachers", and imperial academy's teacher was called a doctor, whose main duty was to "teach his disciples". Before the Western Han Dynasty, teachers were mostly recommended and did not need exams.
Most of the doctors in the Western Han Dynasty were academic celebrities, and they were selected by worship or recommendation. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, China had a teacher's "qualification examination"-if he wanted to become a doctor in imperial academy, he had to pass the exam presided over by Taichang (similar to the exam presided over by the Ministry of Education now). At that time, celebrities who studied classics were eligible for posts, and there were corresponding regulations on teachers' personal teaching experience and age. It was required that they had taught more than 50 students, at least 50 years old.
