Mo Yan (male) (1956.2 ——), formerly known as Guan. Shandong Gaomi people. After dropping out of school in the fifth grade, he returned to his hometown to farm for nearly ten years. 1976 Joined the China People's Liberation Army. 198 1 started writing, and his published works include Dry River, Autumn Water and Folk Music. 1985 The novella Transparent Carrot (China Writer 1985 No.2) caused a sensation in the literary world. 1986 Graduated from the Literature Department of PLA Art College. Representative works include Goldilocks and Red Sorghum. He has published short stories such as Transparent Carrots, Explosion, Red Sorghum Family, and novels such as Song of Garlic Moss in Heaven, Thirteen Steps, Breasts and Hips.
