13 universities, including the University of Tokyo, were selected for the first round list.

Japan's competition for international talents has entered a substantive stage.

In order to effectively cooperate with the implementation of the 300,000 international students' reception plan, Japan has formulated the Global 30 Plan, that is, 30 universities from domestic universities are selected as international demonstration bases for receiving outstanding international students. Previously, 22 private universities in China submitted applications to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. After strict examination, Japan recently announced the first round of model universities. 13 top universities in Japan, such as Dongda University and Keio University, were selected. In the future, universities selected as model universities will take receiving international students as an important part, and will also receive key financial assistance from the Japanese government.

For a long time, due to the limitation of Japanese minority languages and the low degree of internationalization of Japanese universities, it is difficult for Japanese students to compete with European and American students. Most outstanding students, including China, choose Europe and America as their preferred destinations. This situation is expected to be broken in the future. Model universities in Japan will teach in English, and some foreign students who are not proficient in Japanese can get their degrees in Japan through English.

The publication of the list of international model universities marks that Japan's competition for outstanding talents in the world has begun to enter a substantive stage. It will change the single country of origin of Japanese students, and it will also promote the enthusiasm of students from English-speaking countries in Europe and America to study in Japan. According to the statistics of Japanese government agencies, the main groups of Japanese students are from Asian countries, among which China students account for more than 70%. Diversification of countries of origin of international students is helpful to promote the internationalization of universities and enhance the value of studying abroad. On the other hand, it will improve the overall quality of studying in Japan. Most students who used to study in Japan were high school students. In the future, more global high-end academic holders will choose to study in Japan.
