According to statistics, in recent years, Southern Base has trained more than 7,000 international Chinese teachers and administrators (including foreign principals of Confucius Institute, public teachers, volunteer teachers, foreign native Chinese teachers, education officials and principals of primary and secondary schools). Among them, in the second half of last year alone, the base completed the training task for nearly 2,000 local Chinese teachers from the United States, Canada, France, Spain, Thailand, South Korea, Japan and Cambodia. At present, the base has become the largest international Chinese teacher training base among the existing Chinese international promotion bases in China.
At present, building a teacher training base, supporting China universities to cooperate with foreign countries to set up a Chinese teacher major, and strengthening the training of local Chinese teachers are the first of the seven key projects that Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters will implement in the future. In order to implement the strategic policy of international promotion of Chinese, combined with the actual demand of Hanban/Confucius Institute headquarters for international training of Chinese teachers, we will strengthen and expand the southern base, so that it can better serve the international promotion of Chinese and the development planning of Confucius Institutes around the world, build a high-quality talent team, and enhance the soft power of national culture. According to Xiamen University document [20 1 1]49, the office of Confucius Institute in Xiamen University was formally established. According to Xiamen University document [20 12] 174, the South Base for International Promotion of Chinese in Xiamen University was reorganized into an independent institution at the official level (separated from overseas education colleges), and Comrade Mao was appointed as the director of the office of Confucius Institute in Xiamen University (Xiamen University Committee document) Comrade Su Zixing was appointed as the secretary of the General Branch Committee of the South Base for the International Promotion of Chinese in Xiamen University, and was relieved of his post as the secretary of the Committee of the School of Foreign Languages of Xiamen University (Xiamen University Committee Group [2012] No.54). Vice President Zhan Xinli pointed out at the inaugural meeting of the new leadership team of Southern Base that in the future, the base should give full play to Xiamen University's superior resources in overseas Chinese education and international promotion of Chinese, make full use of the excellent teachers of Xiamen University's overseas education college, and focus on the Confucius Institute affiliated to Xiamen University and Confucius classroom services, so as to build the base into a comprehensive southern base with international Chinese teacher training as the leading factor and all-round service for international promotion of Chinese. Take the overseas Confucius Institute (classroom) of Xiamen University as a platform to further promote the internationalization of Xiamen University and push Xiamen University to a new level.
At present, Xiamen University is stepping up the construction of a new site dedicated to the southern base in Xiang 'an New Campus. The project covers an area of more than 500 mu with a planned construction area of 90,000 square meters. In the future, the Southern Chinese International Promotion Base will have better conditions for office, teaching, living, research and development and cultural experience activities. In the construction of overseas Confucius Institutes, the total number of Confucius Institutes in Xiamen University has reached 15, with 37 Confucius classrooms. Under the leadership of the Southern Base Council, these Confucius Institutes (classrooms) spread all over five continents have carried out various activities according to the characteristics of their respective Confucius Institutes, and achieved gratifying results, ranking among the best in the world. Mao, director of the South Base for International Promotion of Chinese Language/Director of the Office of Confucius Institute, said that by building the South Base for International Promotion of Chinese Language and the Office of Confucius Institute, "two advances" will be realized: First, vigorously promote the construction of overseas Confucius Institutes in Xiamen University, and use the base to provide services and support for the sustainable development of Confucius Institutes in Xiamen University; Second, vigorously promote the construction of the southern base, make use of the bridge function of the Confucius Institute at Xiamen University to promote new progress in the base work, and strive to build the southern base for international promotion of Chinese into the largest large-scale, professional and integrated international training base for Chinese teachers and managers in South China under the guidance of Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters, so as to make greater contributions to the international promotion of Chinese and the going out of Chinese culture.
