Guizhou minzu university, affiliated to Guizhou Provincial People's Government, is one of the earliest universities for nationalities established in New China. It is a key university in Guizhou Province, a university jointly established by the Guizhou Provincial People's Government and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, an excellent branch school of undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education, and an international student university receiving a scholarship from the China Municipal Government. It is supported by East China Normal University and South China University of Technology.

The school was founded in May 195 1 17, formerly known as Guizhou Institute for Nationalities, and was renamed guizhou minzu university with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the Guizhou Provincial People's Government in October/February.
