Shandong University of Technology was founded in 2002 by the merger of Shandong Institute of Technology and Zibo College.

Previously, on 1998, the former Zibo Normal University, Shandong Institute of Building Materials, Zibo Staff University, Zibo Radio and TV University and Zibo University (local school) merged to form Zibo College.
