Shanghai University, referred to as Shangda for short, is a comprehensive university under the "2 1 1 project" of Shanghai and the state. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and the first batch of "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" universities.

Old Shanghai University was founded in 1922, and its first president was Yu Youren. From 65438 to 0994, Shanghai University for Science and Technology, Shanghai University for Science and Technology, Shanghai University and Shanghai Institute of Science and Technology complemented each other to form the new Shanghai University.

In the latest ranking of Asian universities QS20 14, Shanghai University ranks 72nd in Asia and 15 in Chinese mainland.
