Its predecessor was Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Manufacturing School. 1958 was upgraded to Dalian Railway Institute, formerly managed by the Ministry of Railways. In February 2000, it was handed over to the Liaoning provincial government for management. In May 2004, it was renamed Dalian Jiaotong University.
