There are five levels of professional titles, from senior professional titles to ranks, which are senior teachers, senior teachers, first-class teachers, second-class teachers and third-class teachers in turn, corresponding to senior, deputy senior, intermediate, assistant and rank titles respectively.
The middle school series is mainly divided into: senior middle school, middle school (level 1), junior middle school (level 2 and level 3), and technical secondary school series: senior lecturer, lecturer and teaching assistant (senior middle school teachers and technical secondary school lecturers are equivalent to university associate professors; Teaching assistants are equivalent to secondary teachers in middle schools. The primary school series is mainly divided into: senior primary school, primary school level 1, secondary primary school level 2 and primary school level 3.

1927, the "Regulations on the Qualification of University Teachers" promulgated by the Education Administration Committee of the Kuomintang government began to stipulate this title. People's Republic of China (PRC) has remained unchanged since its founding.
1960 on March 5th, the State Council issued the "Interim Provisions on Teachers' Professional Titles in Colleges and Universities and Their Identification and Promotion Measures", stipulating that the professional conditions for a lecturer to be promoted to associate professor are:
(1) can be competent for the teaching of one or more subjects in this major, with high quality and excellent results.
(2) Having a solid theoretical knowledge and rich practical experience in this discipline, being able to carry out in-depth research work in close contact with reality within a certain business scope, and making remarkable achievements, putting forward scientific papers with a certain level, or making great contributions to production technology, or having high attainments in business skills.
