It is a full-time undergraduate college sponsored by Chongqing Municipal People's Government. Its predecessors, Chongqing Normal University and Yuzhou Institute of Education, were founded in 1976 and 1972 respectively. In May of 20001year, the two universities merged to form Yuxi College; In April 2005, it was renamed Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences.

2. Chongqing Normal University

Founded in 1954, it is a full-time comprehensive undergraduate college organized by Chongqing Municipal People's Government and one of the important bases for teacher education in western China. Its school-running history originated from the official East Sichuan Normal School in 1906. The school 1986 awarded the master's degree and changed its name to Chongqing Normal University in 2003.

3. Chongqing Jiaotong University

Chongqing Jiaotong University is a multi-disciplinary university with traffic characteristics and industry orientation, which is jointly established by Chongqing Municipal People's Government, Ministry of Transport of People's Republic of China (PRC) and China. It has been selected into "Basic Capacity Building Project of Central and Western Universities", "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan", National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Plan and National College Students' Cultural Quality Education Base.

4. Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications

It is one of the key universities of posts and telecommunications established by the state. It is a high-level teaching and research university with distinctive characteristics and outstanding advantages, which has an important influence in the field of information and communication. Starting from 1950, the school started a training course for postal personnel at the original site of the General Post Office of the Ministry of Communications during the Anti-Japanese War.

5. Chongqing University of Technology

It is a key construction university in Chongqing and the only ordinary undergraduate college with military background in Southwest China. The school can be traced back to the Technical School of the Ordnance Department of the National Government founded in 1 1.
