Asian universities have improved rapidly in the rankings, among which Tokyo University ranked 27th, three places higher than 20 1 1. The National University of Singapore ranked 29th, up 1 1 year from 201year, and Seoul National University of Korea rose from 124 to 59th. Japan, South Korea and Singapore each have five universities, four universities and two universities in the top 200. Universities in mainland China and Hong Kong still maintain the impressive achievement of winning 4 seats in the Top 200, which is the highest density of top universities in the world, among which the University of Hong Kong ranks 35th, one place lower than 20 1 1.
Phil Betty, deputy editor-in-chief of The Times Higher Education Supplement, which is responsible for compiling the world university rankings, said that the huge investment of top research universities in Asia has begun to pay off.
