1946, the journalism department of Jinan University was established in Shanghai. 1949, which was merged into the journalism department of Fudan University due to the closure of Jinan University. 1958, Jinan University is rebuilt in Guangzhou, and the Chinese Department offers journalism 1960. 1970, Jida was forced to close down due to the Cultural Revolution, and the journalism major and Chinese Department merged into South China Normal University. 1978, Jinan university rebuilt the journalism department after the resumption of school. Since then, the journalism and communication education of Jinan University has embarked on the road of continuous development.
At present, the college consists of journalism department, advertising department, radio and television department, network and new media department, oral communication department and computing news communication research center. Guangzhou Public Opinion Big Data Research Center, a key research base of humanities and social sciences in Guangzhou. The Institute of Communication and National Governance and the Institute of Cultural Heritage Creative Industry are affiliated to the School of Journalism and Communication.
