Inner Mongolia University of Technology is located in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is a full-time general undergraduate college established with the approval of China People's Ministry of Education and sponsored by the People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

It was selected into the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions of China, the excellent engineer education and training plan of the Ministry of Education, the first batch of universities implementing new engineering research and practice projects of the Ministry of Education, and the universities receiving scholarships from the China government for overseas students in China.

The school's predecessor was Suiyuan Senior Industrial School, which was founded in 195 1. 1958, with the support of Tsinghua University and others, Inner Mongolia Institute of Technology was established. It once belonged to the Ministry of Machinery Industry and the Ministry of Agricultural Machinery. 1983 assigned to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region; 1993 was renamed as Inner Mongolia University of Technology.

As of June 2023, the school has three campuses, namely Xincheng Campus, Jinchuan Campus and Zhungeer Campus, covering an area of 3,227 mu, with a building area of 923,700 square meters, with total fixed assets of 3,063 million yuan, total teaching and research instruments and equipment of 826,543.8+53 million yuan, 6,543.8+0.53 million paper books and 6,543.8+0.52 books.
