5. Fudan University

The school was founded in 1905, formerly known as Fudan University, and was named Fudan University in 19 17. It is the first institution of higher learning independently established by the people of China. The predecessor of Shanghai Medical University was the National Fourth Sun Yat-sen University Medical College founded in 1927. In 2000, Fudan University and Shanghai Medical University merged.
