Pritzker Prize for Architecture in 2020

The Pritzker Prize for Architecture in 2020 was announced: yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, two female partners of grafton Architects, won the grand prize. This is the fourth time that a female architect has won an award after Zaha Hadid (2004), Mishima Kazushi (20 10) and Kamopigma (20 17). They also won the prize for the first time in Ireland.

These two women are both architects and educators, who have worked in the field of architecture for more than 40 years. The two stood out with powerful and meticulous practice methods and ideas. Their modern and site-based design is closely related to history, which shows the architect's high sensitivity and craftsmanship.

Pritzker prize

Pritzker Prize is known as the Nobel Prize in architecture. It was initiated by Jay Pritzker and his wife Cindy on 1979 and sponsored by Hyatt Foundation as an award for architects.

Every year, more than 500 architects engaged in architectural design are nominated, and a jury composed of well-known architects and scholars from all over the world judges an individual or a combination in recognition of their wisdom, insight and dedication in architectural design creation, as well as their outstanding contributions to human beings and the artificial environment through architectural art, which is known as the "Nobel Prize in the field of architecture".

The number of expert judges of the independent evaluation committee of Pritzker Architecture Prize is five to nine. The members of the jury are appointed to select the winners of the Pritzker Architecture Prize every year, and they have served for several years to ensure the balance between the new and old members of the Committee. Neither Pritzker family members nor external observers participate in the Committee's review, which is usually held in the first few months of each year. Members of the jury are recognized professionals in their respective fields, including architecture, commerce, education, publishing and culture.

The nomination process lasted from the beginning of the year to the end of the year and ended in June of the following year. Nominations received after the deadline will automatically be regarded as nominations for the following year. More than 500 candidates from more than 40 countries are nominated every year. Although architecture is not included in the selection of the Nobel Prize, the international jury of Pritzker Architecture Prize still refers to the selection method of the Nobel Prize. After careful consideration, the jury composed of world-renowned authoritative architects, writers, artists, scholars, critics and former IBM executives decided the final selection result by secret ballot.
