The discussion about Wu Xunchuan began with the release of Wu Xunchuan in February195/kloc-0. After reading it, Mao Zedong thought it had "major political problems" and published an editorial "Attention should be paid to the discussion on Wu Xunchuan" in May 20th 195 1 People's Daily. Wu Xunchuan's critical movement triggered this discussion, which actually replaced the normal literary criticism and academic criticism with political criticism, and formed a series of ideological and political criticism modes. At the same time, it continued to strengthen Mao Zedong's authoritative position, damaged inner-party democracy, deepened Mao Zedong's prejudice against intellectuals in Kuomintang-controlled areas, and laid the groundwork for later re-evaluation of Tao Xingzhi.
