Whose masterpiece is General Pedagogy? What is this?
General Pedagogy is an educational work created by German educator johann friedrich herbart, which was first published in 1806. In this book, the author puts forward a brand-new pedagogy system. He divided pedagogy into three parts: management theory, teaching theory and subject theory, trying to build pedagogy on the basis of practical philosophy and psychology and make pedagogy a science.

Herbart wrote "Pedagogy Syllabus" in 1835, which is the annotation and supplement to "General Pedagogy" and further develops the basic ideas of psychology in the book.

Specific content

① The purpose and method of children's management education. It is believed that the purpose of education is varied, the purpose of management is to cultivate children's moral strength, and the task of teaching is to develop various interests.

② Diversity of interests and stages of teaching. This paper discusses various concepts, interested objects, the results of teaching process and so on. And put forward four formal stages of teaching: clarity, association, system and method. The teaching process is also divided into suggestive, analytical and comprehensive.

(3) "Moral power of character". This paper discusses the significance of character, the forms of expression of character, moral concepts and forms of expression of character. It is emphasized that children's character should be cultivated through education, and the purpose of moral education is the formation of character. Moral education is also based on various interests and moral concepts.
