It is divided into basic English and advanced English.

◆ Course attributes

1. Basic English: Basic English is a compulsory course, which will be divided into three grades: listening, speaking, reading, translating and writing. In addition, appropriate online tutoring will be arranged every week (see the schedule for details).

Advanced English: Advanced English is a compulsory elective course, that is, students can choose one of the seven elective courses according to their own needs, interests and English level.

◆ Evaluation and maintenance-free mechanism

First of all, basic English tests will be classified and passed in stages to evaluate students' English level. That is, the test will be divided into three parts: listening and speaking (out of 40, 24 points, oral test is required after the listening part is passed), reading and translation (out of 80, 48 points) and writing (out of 30, 18 points). The placement test at the time of admission is the first basic English test. Candidates who reach the qualified score line are deemed to have passed in advance. Those who pass in advance are exempted from basic courses, and then choose the appropriate compulsory elective course of advanced English according to their own conditions (limited to one course/person).

Second, the evaluation method of advanced English is decided by the teachers of each course (please refer to the description of compulsory elective courses).

◆ Description of Basic English Course

Description of listening and speaking course

1. Course Description: This course is a compulsory English course for all non-English majors, aiming at improving students' English listening and speaking ability. So that they can effectively conduct daily dialogues and academic exchanges with their foreign counterparts in English in the future. Good English listening and speaking skills will provide possibilities for their career development. This course will consider cultivating students' listening and speaking ability. This course will adopt the teaching mode of combining classroom teaching with autonomous learning.

Second, teaching material: Extensive Reading English Listening and Speaking Course (Volumes 5 and 6, edited by Yang Fengzhen, Fudan University Press); Supplemented by Longman English listening and speaking course and other teaching materials.

Total listening score = written test+usual score

Written test (40 points): the question type is: a. Multiple choice questions (dialogue) 9 points; B. multiple-choice questions (essays) 6 points; C. Fill in the blanks by dictation 15 (performance test); D. real English 15.

Reading and translating course descriptions

1. Course Description: This course is a compulsory English course, which aims to help students improve their academic English reading ability. Emphasis is placed on improving students' ability to understand the text, identify words in context and translate. Writing course description

First, the course description:

This course is a compulsory course for non-English major postgraduates in the whole school, aiming at comprehensively and systematically understanding and mastering the rules of English article writing and typesetting, and preparing for further study (studying for doctoral degree, writing papers while studying abroad), professional exchanges with foreign counterparts (contributing to international conferences) or employment (work needs). At the same time, it also helps to improve the scores of comprehensive writing, independent writing in TOEFL and argumentative writing in Task 2 in IELTS. The characteristics of this class: put an end to templates and encourage innovation; Emphasize the combination with practice, focusing on practice.

Oral English communication

First, the course description:

This course aims to improve students' oral English communication ability and prepare for further study, job hunting, work, promotion and foreign exchange. In addition, it is also helpful for candidates preparing for TOEFL and IELTS speaking. In order to create opportunities for each student to speak English, there are various forms of oral activities in the classroom, including two-person training, multi-person training, games, role-playing, impromptu dialogue and so on. The number of oral topics provided is quite large, covering a wide range.

A Course of College Oral English Communication edited by Li Zhengming was published by Renmin University of China Press in March 2008. It is available at Hongtu Bookstore on campus.

Third, the evaluation method:

Oral examination. Total grade = 50% of the usual grade (including attendance and class participation)+50% of the final oral test score.

Requirements: able to communicate in general, active in thinking and willing to talk, but dissatisfied with their pronunciation, vocabulary or fluency, eager to continue to improve. Each class is limited to 30 people.

Western Cultural English Film, TV, Audio-visual and Oral English (compulsory elective courses)

First, the curriculum construction objectives:

This course integrates language and culture, and builds a relaxed and colorful platform for students to learn and use English with western cultural feature films and English movies as carriers. Open a multi-perspective window to "see" western culture. Its ultimate goal is to enable students to broaden their cultural horizons and understand the culture of western countries while learning English language, so as to lay a good foundation for future international academic exchanges.

Second, the course content:

According to the actual English cognitive level of master students, the course combines the appreciation of western culture with the improvement of English listening and speaking ability to achieve the effect of killing two birds with one stone and getting twice the result with half the effort. The specific course content is as follows:

1, appreciation of cultural topics.
