A Brief Introduction to the Red Book of General Education in Harvard University
Introduction to Harvard Red Book on General Education: 1943, a committee composed of 12 well-known professors from Harvard University was established to study "the goal of general education in a democratic society". After two years of painstaking research, the Committee formed a summary report entitled "General Education in a Democratic Society", which was published by Harvard University Press as 1945, commonly known as "red book". Once the red book was published, it caused a strong shock and response in all walks of life in the United States, especially the incisive discussion on the position and role of general education in higher education and the relationship between general education and professional education, which was widely recognized by the higher education community.
