The fundamental purpose of ideal education is to guide the broad masses of workers to establish a Marxist or communist world outlook and outlook on life. However, as an ideology, ideal is a reflection of social existence. Restricted by social material and cultural conditions, people believe, yearn for and pursue goals in social life at different levels, so ideal education should also be required in different situations and at different levels. For the advanced elements of the working class, it is their ideal to establish a communist society that distributes according to needs and does everything according to his ability. For the broad masses of workers, it is impossible to ask them to set up such high ideals soon. From the actual situation of the broad masses of workers, it is appropriate to regard "building socialism with China characteristics and building China into a prosperous, strong, democratic and civilized socialist modern country" as the common ideal of the broad masses of workers at this stage. In order to realize this common ideal, we should respect and carry forward all the positive thoughts and spirits among workers that are conducive to the four modernizations and the rejuvenation of the reunification of China and the motherland, all the positive thoughts and spirits that are conducive to national unity, social progress and people's happiness, and all the positive thoughts and spirits that strive for a better life through honest labor. We should help workers gradually understand the Marxist world outlook and the law of social development, the history and glorious tradition of China's revolutionary struggle, the progress and contradictions in the contemporary world, the future of mankind, improve their self-esteem, self-confidence and pride as a member of the working class in China, and build their common ideal on a scientific basis.
