Located in Beibei District, Chongqing, Southwest University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), which is jointly built by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Chongqing.
It ranks among the member universities of the national "double first-class", "21engineering", "985 engineering advantage discipline innovation platform" and "double first-class" agricultural alliance.
Selected in "11/plan", "201/plan", "Hundred Schools Project", outstanding agricultural and forestry talents education and training plan, outstanding teachers training plan, national college students' innovation experiment plan, national college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training plan and national high-level university public postgraduate plan.
By the end of 2023 1, Southwest University had established 1 national key laboratories, 1 national engineering technology research centers, 1 national local joint engineering laboratories, 1 national field scientific observation and research stations, and 1 national key laboratory cultivation bases.
There are 4 engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, 6 "1/plan" innovation and intelligence introduction bases, 2 field scientific observation experimental stations of the Ministry of Education, 2 field scientific observation experimental stations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, 2 field bases of the Ministry of Natural Resources, National University Science Park1,Chongqing Key Laboratory 2 1, and Chongqing Engineering Laboratory (Engineering Technology).

By June 2023 1, the school has 44 teaching units and offers 102 undergraduate majors, covering philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agronomy, medicine, management and art 12 disciplines.
