It started in the 30th year of Zhiyuan (A.D. 1293), and was named as a municipal model high school in June 1989 after the evolution of Confucianism in Yuan Dynasty, the learning palace in Ming and Qing Dynasties, county-level normal schools and county-level middle schools in the Republic of China, Xin 'an No.1 Middle School after liberation and Chengguan High School. Mr. He Jingzhi, a famous modern writer and former deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the CPC, wrote the name of the school; Mr. Yang Zimin, a famous poet, and composers Shi Xiang and Jing 'an wrote school songs. Mr. Guo Zhenyou, executive vice president of China Education Association, writes school motto; Mr. Shao Wenjie, the former vice governor, wrote an inscription praising Henan as a "holy land for educating people"; Comrade Fan Qinchen, former chairman of the CPPCC, sent letters to congratulate the development of the school many times.
