Shimenkan, located in the northwest corner of Guizhou, near the edge of Sichuan and Yunnan, is one of the poorest places in China. However, in 1905, with the arrival of British missionary Baglai, it quickly became "the region with the highest Miao culture in southwest China" and the place with the highest modern education level in China. In the first half of the last century, Shimenkan was the birthplace of Miao characters, the education center in the border area between Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan, the center for spreading Miao culture, the self-help center for wartime victims, the rescue center for endemic diseases such as leprosy, and the hometown of football. Shimenkan is famous because an English missionary named bagley and his successors created the prosperity of Shimenkan.

The first bilingual teaching school in China.

It used to be the earliest leprosy hospital in China and the first Miao people's hospital in China. This is the first place where endemic fluorosis was discovered and reported in China.

Vocabulary and culture

In the 1930' s, Shimenkan had a sports meeting set up in full accordance with modern standards. When the first batch of Miao students in Shimenkan School graduated from primary school, in 19 13, Shimenkan sent a group of small "international students" to Chengdu for the first time.
