The educational principle embodied by the erudition and politeness of a gentleman
Confucius said, "A gentleman is knowledgeable in literature and can be a gift of (1) or a husband of (2)."

Note (1) About: 1. Interpretation as constraint; One interpretation is conciseness. ② Pan: Same as "rebellion". (3) Yi Fu: Modal particles, expressing a strong sigh.

Confucius said: "A gentleman can study ancient cultural classics extensively and restrain himself with courtesy, so that he will not deviate from his original path."

The comments on this chapter clearly explain the educational purpose of Confucius. Of course, he doesn't advocate deviance, so what should he do? He believes that we should study ancient books extensively and use "rites" to restrain ourselves. After all, he wants to cultivate a gentleman who knows "courtesy".
