In China, many parents believe that their children can ascend to heaven when they get on 985. In the eyes of parents who can attend 985 school, it is great that their children can go to the north. In fact, the top universities in the world 100, any school, can throw away 80% of the 985 universities in China; Most of the top 50 universities in the world, Qingbei is not a little behind them. There are days behind the world and mountains outside. Many people have never been out to see the outside world all their lives, and their cognition has not reached that level after all.
As for prejudice, after all, everyone has different views and ideas, and we can't kill them all at once.
Studying abroad for a master's degree, different countries and colleges have different requirements for students. Admittedly, the admission requirements of some schools are not too high, but it should be noted that foreign institutions are "lenient in entry and strict in exit".
At present, we in China are biased against the masters of some countries and regions, but we still need to look at them objectively.
The level of students studying abroad is indeed uneven, including excellent students and students who have just graduated from school. You can't deny foreign masters just because of some people's situation.
Some people are biased against foreign masters, perhaps because they don't fully understand the masters of every country, or because the quality of some masters studying abroad around them makes them biased against the overall masters studying abroad. However, it is undeniable that many students have greatly improved their language ability, knowledge and independence, not only academically.
My bachelor's degree and master's degree were both studied in France. It is estimated that no one in China knows about this school. But I was the first in the department from beginning to end and took the initiative to do a lot of internships.
Last year, I went back to China to look for a job, and the offer salary I got was not low (15k to 19k), mainly because I was confident in the interview, and no one could hold me back technically.
Therefore, there is no need to be partial. No matter where you graduate, you just need to practice with your real skills.
What these people can't eat is sour grapes!
Because some foreign master's majors are really watery!
For example, this overseas master's "water content" ranking posted online is full of dry goods. In the past, there were 10 famous American universities on the list, namely Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Pennsylvania, University of Chicago, Cornell University, Harvard University, Duke University, Yale University and Northwestern University.
Compared with the past, the threshold for master's degree going abroad is low and the "water quantity" is sufficient, while overseas doctors are still strong. No matter at home or abroad, there is no doubt that they will crush the "Tubo" at home. Generally speaking, doctors studying abroad are genuine, but there are too many masters studying abroad.
Fortunately, when selecting talents, our employers should not only look at academic qualifications, but also look at ability. The weight of these "gilded returnees" is already obvious. In fact, it is the employers in our country who look down on these "overseas water owners" the most. Therefore, those students who only know how to "live on their laurels" and spend hundreds of thousands of tuition fees from their parents and family members to "gild" their masters overseas should wake up.
Impossible, those seemingly bluffing "overseas experts" are completely different from the real "overseas experts". The master's degree system usually lasts for one or two years, which is close to the student source structure of "all-China class". It requires extremely low GMAT and TOEFL scores, and it costs hundreds of thousands or even millions of yuan to study for an "overseas master's degree" for one year, which not only wastes time, but also wastes youth.
In fact, the "gold content" of these prestigious American "water masters" projects is mainly based on the information publicly disclosed by the school, the feedback of the employment quality of previous alumni, and the written research of students at school. The conclusions and rankings are not groundless and fabricated out of thin air.
Many people think that "China has a large population" and "short academic system" are the original sins of these "rich international students", which is actually not accurate. After all, the strong project of Chinese people is science and engineering, so it is normal for science majors to have "semi-Chinese classes" or even "all-Chinese classes". After all, the more people in China, the fiercer the academic competition. Therefore, these world famous schools have launched many "short-term masters" with complicated names, obviously in order to make money.
Then, in the face of so many "overseas navy" majors, how can we distinguish the differences with a keen eye?
Some students insist on applying for studying abroad knowing that those "one-year" masters from overseas famous schools are "water". At best, they want to change the environment, broaden their knowledge and improve their academic qualifications. But in any case, even if they are studying for a "one-year" master's degree, we still need parents and families to pay a lot for their will and willfulness. Then, how much "gold content" can you have in studying this dispensable master's degree in an overseas famous school?
Although it is a world-famous school, but after spending so much money to get an "overseas water master", you still can't find a job after returning home. Who can blame you?
I think there are several main reasons:
1, I don't know the requirements and characteristics of foreign one-year masters. These people all heard it through hearsay, and they didn't verify it in person, but also followed suit. Many people actually don't know the foreign one-year master of teaching:
(1) First, I don't know that applying for a one-year master's degree in the top 100 and the top 50 overseas universities in the world requires a high undergraduate grade point. General undergraduate background is 985/2 1 1, and the average score needs to be above 85, English IELTS needs 7, and TOEFL 100. These requirements for domestic graduates of 985/2 1 1 are very few, not to mention other outstanding performances, such as winning prizes in professional competitions, internship in world-famous brand companies, and participating in charitable activities. Not to mention the screening, so it is no exaggeration to say that students who can enter the top 100 universities in the world are fully capable and capable of being admitted to the domestic 900.
(2) Second, I didn't know that overseas masters were going to study more than a dozen courses this year, and I mistakenly thought that just muddling along would do. In fact, on the contrary, prestigious schools attach importance to the reputation of their own schools and will never let students graduate easily. Therefore, many masters of famous schools can't graduate on schedule because their academic performance is not up to standard. One of my subordinates is a master of the University of Sydney, Australia. She said that about 1/3 students need to postpone their graduation for half a year before they can apply for the University of Sydney. Many undergraduate courses are 985/2 1 1, and their learning ability is already very strong, so they can't graduate on schedule, which shows the great academic pressure;
(3) Third, I don't know how the education methods of foreign masters are different from those in China, thinking that they are all the same spoon-feeding teaching. In foreign countries, it emphasizes autonomous learning, critical learning and team learning under the guidance of teachers. In different courses, students will be divided into different groups. Before the course begins, they need to read a lot of pre-reading materials designated by the professor. During the course, group discussion and PPT presentation are needed. After the course, there will be tests and practice reports. Through these processes, people's comprehensive quality will grow well, and their contribution to personal professional ability is no less than the improvement of professional knowledge itself.
(4) I don't know that learning depends on teachers' strength, educational methods, personal investment and time management, rather than simply on the length of time. In the past, the teachers of overseas famous schools had advanced education methods, and students' time was spent on study, internship and experiment. Unlike many domestic masters who spend a lot of time in three years and have to do things unrelated to their majors, they often need to help professors do projects unrelated to their majors. In some exaggerated cases, they even need to help professors with housework. So, what can the length of time be?
2. I didn't see the performance of foreign one-year masters. These people didn't see the performance of the one-year master's degree in the famous schools around them. The strength of the top 100 overseas universities in the world basically exceeds that of most domestic universities (985/2 1 1), while the top 50 overseas universities in the world can basically be compared with Tsinghua and Peking University in China. The talents trained by these overseas universities with one-year master's degrees show their performance in the workplace, whether it is the ability to learn new knowledge or the spirit of teamwork.
3. It is not excluded that some people have hatred and jealousy. Because the cost of studying abroad is not low, some people think that it is the world of the rich, and jealousy of the rich will also affect people's normal judgment. The fact is that many families of international students are ordinary working class, and studying abroad is no longer "aristocratic consumption".
Two words: jealousy.
I got a master's degree in the United States. Of course, I don't want others to "discriminate" overseas masters, but to be honest, masters in several popular countries in China are very poor. This water comes from two aspects, one is the academic system, and the other is the admission conditions.
First of all, the academic system, most British and American masters are purely taught, and the duration is 1 to 2 years. There is no tutor's guidance, no requirement for publishing articles or even graduation thesis. Many of them can be regarded as graduation projects as long as they do a simple course project, which means that studying for a master's degree is actually 1-2 years of undergraduate study. Moreover, there are many masters in Britain and America, and there is a lot of space for elective courses, so many people choose water courses and their grades are not bad.
Under such conditions, can you expect the master's education itself to bring you anything? I'm afraid not.
Another, the threshold for a master's degree is relatively low. Of course, a low threshold doesn't mean that you can go if you have money, as some people say, but it is often much less difficult to enroll a school that ranks similar to China in the world than China.
Let's make a simple comparison. The top 50 universities in the United States and the top 10 universities in China are almost the same in international rankings. However, if we compare the graduate admission standards of these universities in the United States, these domestic graduate students can basically crush these overseas students.
However, in schools like Stanford and Berkeley, the difficulty of master's admission is still at the top level, mainly because the admission standards of other masters have fallen sharply.
So what is the main purpose of studying for a master's degree in Britain and America? In fact, it is easier to find a job and a legal job in the United States after graduation than to apply for a job in the United States directly from China.
But in fact, whether you can find a job depends mainly on your ability and undergraduate accumulation. Of course, there are also experts who make great efforts to fight back, but it depends more on your own efforts than on the experts themselves.
In addition, taking the master's degree in Britain and the United States as an example, you can basically leave the engineering-related positions, especially the programmers as the largest group, and the employment rate of the computer major crushes all other majors, so the competition of the computer major is fierce, but other majors are basically delayed for two years, and finally they can't stay.
Of course, this is not to deny foreign education. There are still many schools with high master's education level, and many students work hard. However, compared with China, the overall quality of this group has been improved due to the fierce competitive environment. Compared with foreign experts, they pay more attention to personal level.
In addition, I think it is not good to flatter or exclude foreigners. The correct attitude should be to eliminate the interference of school background and treat students' practical ability correctly.
Prejudice stems from ignorance and jealousy.
I believe that as long as there are parents or children who go abroad at home, they will hear a lot of such doubts and jealousy: children who don't study well go abroad, and rich people go abroad. They can graduate as long as they pay money and learn nothing but spend money. Harsh and ridiculous.
Regardless of academic pressure, who is sure of IELTS 6.5? The top universities in QS 100 are mostly domestic undergraduate 2 1 1/985, with an average score of about 85. You can ask the students who ask questions whether they can meet this standard before you speak.
I didn't study for a master's degree in China, probably because the pressure of studying for a master's degree in China is greater than that in foreign countries.
I don't think it's necessary to care about this prejudice. This prejudice will not affect your future work and life. It is good for future leaders to know what you have learned after graduation abroad and to improve your ability. You and a biased person are destined to be different people in the future.
Finally, I quote a sentence from teacher Degang Guo: As many people love you, so many people hate you. No matter what you do, someone will envy you and criticize you behind your back, so don't care.
