Xiao (1884 ~ 1940) is a famous music educator and composer in China. The word Sihe, also known as Xue Ming. 1884 1.7 was born in Xiangshan, Guangdong Province (now Zhongshan City), 1940 12.3 1 died in Shanghai. 190 1 went to Imperial University in Tokyo, Japan to study pedagogy, and studied music at Tokyo Music School. 1909 returned to China, 19 12 went to Leipzig Conservatory of Music in Germany to study composition theory, 19 16 received his Ph.D. in the thesis "A Historical Study of Chinese Orchestra before the 7th Century".
Returning to China from 65438 to 0920, he taught in Peking University Music Studio and the Music Department of Beijing Institute of Art and served as the team leader. 1927, he and Cai Yuanpei founded the first professional conservatory of music in China-Shanghai National Conservatory of Music as academic director. 1929 was restructured into Shanghai National Conservatory of Music, and he presided over the school administration. He devoted himself to music education and made great contributions to the establishment and development of modern professional music education in China.
Xiao has also made remarkable achievements in music creation and musicology. His music works mainly include the string quartet Serenade (19 16, China's first ensemble), the piano music Introduction to Mourning, Dance of New Clothes and Feathers, the cello music Qiu Si and Problems, and patriotic songs in memory of the May 4th Movement.
