At present, primary and secondary schools generally advocate "appreciation" education and think that good children are "boasted". In the demonstration class, "You are really good!" "You are great" comes one after another, and children grow up with praise. However, once these children are criticized by teachers and parents, the consequences are unimaginable. Don't we often see in some news reports that some students who are usually excellent in all aspects can't relax and make extreme moves because they are criticized by their teachers for something? I don't know when it started. In our country, which has believed in "dutiful son is obedient to the stick" and "superior disciple is strict with the teacher" for thousands of years, such teachers dare not criticize students, let alone punish them, and even talk about the phenomenon of color change. Schools beat around the bush in the so-called happy education, appreciation education and other incomplete education-many schools are trying to cultivate students into greenhouse flowers that can not stand the wind and rain and see the world.
In the view of some theoretical "educators", "a teacher who doesn't have to be punished is a good teacher". When I was talking to an educator about this topic, this person actually said that we don't have to punish the word now. As an educator, I am thinking deeply. What's wrong with the students now? What happened to our education? . In fact, many teachers are influenced by the high line of corporal punishment of students, which naturally conforms to the trend of the times. In fact, there are indeed many students who commit suicide or run away from home after being criticized. This example has made many teachers give up using disciplinary weapons in education. Education punishment has become something that teachers dare not touch, for fear of being labeled as corporal punishment in disguise if they are not careful. Excessive Bel Canto singing, constantly praising students, makes the original education deviate, lacks some punishment in appreciation and a mirror in education.
Comenius, a famous Czech educator and founder of educational science, believes that punishment is necessary, and a school without punishment is like a millstone without water. If students make mistakes, educators will turn a blind eye, ignore them, or scratch their boots, and so on. It will upset students' psychological balance, make them succeed by luck, indulge their wrong behavior and lose their ability to distinguish right from wrong, which is harmful to their development and growth. James Dobson, an American educator and pediatrician, said: "Many people commit crimes because teachers never strictly demand students to stop their bad behavior and teach them to control their impulses, and some of these students come from well-educated families." Sun Yunxiao, deputy director of China Youth Research Center, even called loudly: "Education without punishment is incomplete education, and education without punishment is weak education, fragile education and irresponsible education." In South Korea, the Ministry of Education and Manpower announced a plan in June 2002: "Teachers can punish students who violate school discipline to a certain extent", and clearly defined the object, degree and method of corporal punishment. It should be said that for students who make mistakes, "giving children a measured blow will receive satisfactory results."
First, treat appreciation education correctly.
1, the necessity of appreciation education
It is everyone's nature to listen to good words. There is a "praise machine" on the streets of the United States, and people passing by can hear pleasant compliments without spending money. Of course, some people have doubts about this "praise culture". American psychologist Whip James famously said, "The deepest principle of human nature is to hope others appreciate you." . The so-called appreciation means fully affirming students and constantly cultivating their self-esteem and self-confidence through psychological suggestion, so that they not only have the confidence to make progress, but also have the motivation to make progress. Therefore, common sense is essentially an incentive. James also found that an uninspired person can only play 20%-30% of his ability, and when he is inspired, his ability is 3-4 times that of before. Therefore, in the process of learning, the existence of motivation is very important, and any student needs constant motivation. According to my teaching experience, "appreciation education" can help losers find self-confidence and development, rebuild the building of spiritual world and find the ability of self-education. "The essence of success is not afraid of failure. The student fell for the thousandth time, and the teacher should firmly believe that he can stand up for the thousandth time. " Once students make progress, they will get timely, pertinent and enthusiastic comments from teachers. Even a word of encouragement, an expectant look and a kind gesture will make them feel infinite warmth and leave a deep impression on them. Once they realize that they are valued and appreciated, they will immediately ignite the fire of hope, and their instinct is to actively cooperate.
2. The disadvantages of appreciation education
Now, new educational concepts such as appreciation education, equality between teachers and students, and serving students have been deeply rooted in teachers' minds. Understanding and respecting students has become the premise of teachers' teaching. This is a good phenomenon, but at the same time, we can't help but see that due to the misunderstanding of these concepts, the phenomenon of not daring to criticize students or even letting themselves go is gradually increasing, and some students' discipline concepts are beginning to weaken, and even the phenomenon of going their own way and exclusion is beginning to appear. This can't help but arouse our meditation. On the one hand, only children now account for a large proportion, and parents' attention and love are naturally devoted to their children. Some families spoil their children too much and are endlessly satisfied, which gradually makes them develop selfish, willful and even bohemian characters. In the child's mind, there will be a feeling that "nothing is impossible as long as I want", so as long as he desires, he will take it without scruple, or even take it. Some families are overprotective of their children, and parents do everything for their children, even taking what they can as a potential danger. Therefore, all children's creations are completed under the careful care of their parents. Without the opportunity to practice independently, their hands-on ability is greatly weakened. On the other hand, although the only child has a certain collective life in school life, it is often heard that teachers and parents educate classmates to help each other, but there is no training for brothers and sisters to live together in family life. They are also the backbone of the little emperor and family life, so the act of helping each other is just a concept for them, lacking real action. Just imagine, if we blindly use "praise education" to educate such children, it will only make them more unable to evaluate themselves correctly. It may even bring the following adverse effects: First, increase children's dependence. The more praise, the more children rely on adults' choices to decide what is right and wrong, rather than forming their own judgments; Second, it will deprive children of their pride. Marilyn guttmann, an expert in children's education, believes that children who are often praised by adults as children are likely to encounter more disappointment when they enter life. With the growth of age, children will no longer easily accept the superficial praise of adults. It can be seen that just praising children blindly will inevitably slide into the swamp of doting, which will not do any harm to children, but will harm them as a result.
Second, punishment is a necessary means of education.
1. Punishment is naturally a means of education.
Here, we must first realize that punishment is not equal to corporal punishment, let alone injury, psychological abuse or discrimination, which makes you feel embarrassed and hurts your self-confidence. Corporal punishment is a kind of tort that causes physical pain or extreme fatigue to students and damages their physical and mental health. It includes corporal punishment and corporal punishment in disguised form, that is, "physical" punishment and "spiritual" punishment. Corporal punishment is an act explicitly prohibited by the current laws of our country. The Compulsory Education Law and its implementing rules, the Teachers Law, the Law on the Protection of Minors and other laws not only explicitly prohibit corporal punishment, but also stipulate the legal responsibilities that teachers should bear for corporal punishment of students. Therefore, corporal punishment is illegal, not only should it not be advocated, but also should be strictly prohibited. Punishment refers to a punishment method based on the principle that "punishment makes the offender feel physical and mental pain, but it does not harm the physical and mental health of the punished person". It is essentially different from corporal punishment in purpose, means, way and consequence. The most important thing is that corporal punishment damages the physical and mental health of the punished person.
Caring for students is the unshirkable responsibility of teachers, but this does not mean that educational means can only be mild and rainy. On the contrary, punishment different from corporal punishment, if used properly, will become a positive supplement to appreciation education. Looking at the present situation of primary and secondary education in the United States, Britain, Japan and other countries, we can find that although the banner of personality development is flying high there, the majesty of punishment education is undiminished. The old adage "Don't knock tools", "Little trees don't prune" and "A dutiful son comes from a stick" all mentioned the educational function of punishment. It is human nature to make mistakes. Punishing children who make mistakes can cultivate children to take responsibility bravely, which is exactly the quality that modern people must have. Marilyn guttmann, a famous education expert, said: "Those children who were praised by their teachers as children are likely to be more disappointed when they enter life." Sun Yunxiao, deputy director of China Youth Research Center, also believes that education without punishment is incomplete, fragile and irresponsible.
2. Punishing it has its own principles and scales.
Punishment is not simply to punish students, not to punish students for the sake of punishment. Its purpose is to educate students and make them responsible for their words and deeds. Therefore, punishment has its own principles and scales.
(1). Punishment principle: 1. Purpose principle. Educators should be clear about the purpose when using punishment, and understand that punishment is only a means, not the ultimate goal. The purpose of punishment is to learn lessons, maintain discipline, make the punished students turn over a new leaf, grow up healthily, and make most students receive education. If this purpose is not clear, teachers may abuse punishment, teachers may have personal emotions and prejudice when punishing students, and they may "teach" students' psychology, thus causing corporal punishment. 2. The principle of flexibility. We should choose different punishment methods tactfully and flexibly according to different time, occasion, illegal degree and the personality type of the punished object, but we can't be the same. For example, for students who violate discipline intentionally and negligently, for first-time and repeated offenders, and for extroverted and introverted students, the degree and method of punishment should be different. 3. The principle of combining punishment with other educational methods. Punishment cannot be used in isolation, but must be combined with the whole educational method system, especially with educational methods such as reasoning, communication, influence and encouragement. 4. Punish the principle that problems must be solved without creating new ones. The purpose of punishment is to solve the problem. If this goal cannot be achieved, punishment will easily have negative effects. Therefore, when using punishment, we should pay attention to the degree of grasping, grasp the opportunity, pay attention to the actual effect of punishment, and not have side effects.
(2) The scale of punishment is 1. Punishment also needs respect and trust. It is not only appreciation that can give children self-esteem and self-confidence. Punishment needs more respect and trust. Think of each other with special care, take into account their endurance and dignity, and don't embarrass each other. The premise of education is understanding, and the premise of understanding is respect, and children's characteristics cannot be regarded as shortcomings. For example, not finishing homework, copying the text 20 times and running in the playground are not real punishments. 2. Make students responsible for their mistakes. In fact, when a person knows that he has made a mistake, he is prepared to accept punishment, which is a psychological need. Take responsibility for your guilt and achieve psychological balance. Only those very young children, or children with low degree of socialization, will choose to avoid responsibility. Looking back on our growth process, there must be some punishments that we will never forget. Generally speaking, when a student makes a mistake, it is a good educational opportunity, because guilt and anxiety will make him eager for success, and the truth he understands at this time may make him unforgettable. Education is not to transform people, but to awaken people and awaken the sleeping giants in their hearts. When a child makes a mistake, to punish him, we must first affirm that he is a good boy, and then point out his mistakes. For example, tell him that you are really good, but today, you hurt others. what do you think? What do you do? A basic starting point and purpose of punishment should be to make children responsible for their mistakes. We always say that students are irresponsible. In fact, parents often deprive students of the opportunity to be responsible for themselves from an early age. The more things parents arrange, the worse students' ability. There are too many such things now. In school, teachers will also replace others, such as the activities of the Young Pioneers, many of which are planned, organized and written by teachers. This requires us to change the concept of education and make students feel responsible. People who can take responsibility are modern people. 3. Punishment is also a sign of love. Teachers are also very angry and painful when they punish and reprimand students. No teacher takes students' ugliness as fun, and every educator's goal is the same: to be better for our students. "Beating is kissing, scolding is love" may be extreme, but it is not completely unreasonable.
Third, the combination of appreciation education and punishment education can promote the healthy growth of children.
Once when I first entered the classroom, Liao Haiming, one of the most naughty students in the class, spilled water on several students' desks. The classroom is very noisy and has a great response. After I stabilized my discipline, I asked the students to talk about the consequences of what he had done. Under the public opinion, the naughty student had to bow his head. Then I publicly "pronounced" which class rule he violated and punished him for doing bad things ten times. The students clapped their hands and said that he had done something good. Later, the student made up for his mistakes by fetching water for the class, repairing desks and chairs for his classmates, collecting homework for the teacher and doing duty. Later, I wanted to educate him, so I asked him what he thought. Unexpectedly, he said, "I didn't expect the feeling of doing good to be like this. That's cool. " Punishing him in this way is actually good for him, and the process of understanding is also a process of spiritual communication. There seems to be no contradiction between punishing students who violate discipline and loving education.
Appreciation and punishment are good neighbors, and we should not hesitate to punish for fear of the consequences of punishment, let alone refuse to appreciate because of the inflated self-consciousness of fear of appreciation. Undoubtedly, appreciation and punishment are contradictory, but love is the lever to balance them. I think: "Excellent students seldom know how to thank their teachers." It's not the fault of appreciation, but the teacher sets the wrong appreciation standard, and makes the excellent students and the underachievers alike, so the excellent students always have the upper hand and often blow the "appreciation wind", which makes the excellent students drown in the teacher's wrong love and make them dizzy. And "those students who are often criticized are particularly affectionate when they meet their former teachers" is not the credit of criticism, but because the criticized students understand the teacher's hatred of iron and produce sincere gratitude. In short, reward and punishment should be the performance of teachers' love, and love is the balance of reward and punishment.
Education without punishment is incomplete education, and education without punishment is weak education, fragile education and irresponsible education. The secret of education is true love. Autocracy is not love, but it is autocracy to impose unwanted love on others; Spoil is not love. Playing coquetry is disrespectful to people. I don't think you can, although you can. On the basis of trust and understanding, give children ample room for growth. In fact, children grow up in bumps and bumps. I believe that children's abilities are always beyond the imagination of adults. Of course, just as we can't just appreciate education in education, our education can't just punish education. We should not only combine appreciation education with punishment education, but also combine it with other educational means, such as frustration education. After all, our starting point is love for students, and we all hope that students can grow up healthily and become pillars.
