Shaanxi University of Science and Technology is located in xi, a world-famous historical and cultural city. It is the only multi-disciplinary university in western China that features light industry. Co-founded by China Light Industry Federation, China Light Industry Group Corporation and Shaanxi Provincial Government, it is one of the national "Basic Capacity Building Projects for Universities in the Midwest" and one of the provincial high-level universities in Shaanxi Province.

It was selected into the pilot universities of "Excellent Engineer Program" of the Ministry of Education, the universities built by "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program 2.0" of the Ministry of Education, the first batch of national new engineering research and practice projects, the "Made in China, internet plus, 2025" pilot universities of the Ministry of Education and the first batch of demonstration universities in Shaanxi Province to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education.
