This paper discusses the present situation and development of computer distance education and multimedia technology in China.

[Paper Keywords] distance education multimedia virtual reality

With the advent of the era of knowledge economy, knowledge talents have increasingly become the decisive factor and main resource for national prosperity and national rejuvenation. As an educational method based on computer technology and communication technology, distance education is becoming a bright spot of modern education with its own advantages. Distance education is the product of the combination of modern multimedia teaching and network technology. Under the existing conditions of higher education, modern online distance education is adopted. Expanding the teaching coverage of colleges and universities can effectively alleviate the contradiction between the shortage of educational resources in China and the huge social education demand in the information age. This paper only outlines the reform of its means, the necessity of implementation, the existing difficulties, methods and many other problems, and emphatically expounds that computer distance education should strengthen multimedia technology.

First, the status of distance education in China

Compared with developed countries, there is still a certain gap. Our distance education mainly focuses on basic education. In developed countries, the main bodies of online education are higher education, adult education and continuing education. For example, in the United States, there are 50 million adults studying. In the past five years, the number of online universities in the United States has increased to more than 300, and about 80 universities have been allowed to obtain degrees through online learning. At present, top universities in China, such as Peking University, Tsinghua, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, have also started distance education or online university enrollment.

Second, the development and present situation of the means to realize distance education

(A) the development of distance education

The development of distance education has gone through three stages.

(B) the technical realization of distance education

1. computer network: generally speaking, the material basis for supporting the network distance teaching system has the following components:

(1) Access part: The main equipment is a router, which is mainly used to connect the whole network to the Internet through private network lines, so that users of this network can access Internet resources and other network users can access information of this network.

(2) Switching module: it is the core of the whole network connection and transmission. The main equipment includes backbone switches, branch hubs and network cables connecting the modules, which constitute the whole backbone network.

(3) Server: mainly responsible for the collection, storage and release of information. They are the main entities that provide teaching and information services to the outside world, generally including Web servers, FTP servers, e-mail servers, DNS servers, database servers and so on.

(4) Network management: mainly monitoring the whole network, monitoring the operation performance, early warning and diagnosis of faults, etc. The billing module mainly records the tariff information of network users to control the paid use of network resources.

2. Software part

(1) The multimedia teaching system can be divided into two parts: one is the courseware on demand system. One is the synchronous broadcast teaching system.

(2) Teacher-student interaction tool ① Sharing whiteboard: The software sharing whiteboard is an area that provides text and graphics sharing for teachers and students who are teaching in the Internet environment. Teachers can paste pictures into the shared whiteboard. And use the special drawing tools and text input tools provided by the system to mark and explain the published pictures. The graphics and characters in the teacher's whiteboard can be synchronously transmitted to other students' whiteboards in the communication environment through the Internet.

② Voice and video interaction: Voice interaction is an effective way for teachers and students to communicate in different places. In order to increase the vividness of the teaching process between teachers and students, it is necessary for teachers and students to see their own video images. Teachers can choose a specific student video at will, and they can also see the video images of multiple students at the same time. Students can choose to watch the teacher's video.

③ Synchronous browsing: In the process of communication, a mechanism of synchronous browsing can be provided. Teachers can type in URL addresses and broadcast them to all students' browsers in the same communication environment. So that the browsers of the students and the teachers can be displayed synchronously.

(4) Network question bank system The network-based question bank system is used to support teachers and students to write papers and conduct various types of tests through the network. According to different examination purposes, we can provide corresponding test paper generating strategies, including intelligent test paper generating, relative evaluation test paper generating and absolute evaluation test paper generating. Teachers can automatically generate test papers through the network and download them to local use.

(3) Question answering system

① The questions are sent to the subject teacher who is in charge of this course by email. When the teacher answers the questions, the system will send the automatic answers to the students' mailboxes.

(2) Post the questions on the Q&A bulletin board to answer them. After someone answers, the system will notify the students by email.

(4) homework correcting system

The homework correcting system is a collaborative homework correcting system based on WWW. Students can submit homework through the system, get the result of homework correction, and modify and edit homework according to the teacher's suggestion.

(5) network courseware writing system

The main purpose of developing network courseware writing system is to facilitate teachers who have no professional programming experience to write network teaching software. Teaching units or teachers can use this software to grab the materials in the material library and build online courses or online teaching modules. The online courses built on this platform can be run directly on the network.

(6) Remote examination system

Remote examination system is an important means of teaching information feedback. Students' learning progress can be fed back to the system through exams.

(7) Remote operating system

In the process of students' learning, it is very important to arrange, submit and correct homework. Teachers can get the feedback of teaching effect through the homework system, not only can they know the learning situation of different students, so as to teach students in accordance with their aptitude, but also can find out the problems existing in the teaching process or courseware. And take measures to modify and improve.

Third, the development of multimedia technology.

Multimedia technology is an upsurge in the 1990s. In the past, computers could only receive information through vision, but later the function of "listening" was added, so people called computers with more than two functions of "seeing and listening" as multimedia computers and this technology as multimedia technology. It has developed very rapidly in recent years, and it can be used from computers to local area networks and even the Internet. Multimedia technology has changed the rigid face of microcomputer for many years and turned it into a beautiful face with colorful images and sounds. Its functions can be divided into two categories:

1, only with "audio-visual" function. This kind of computer and its network are used in teaching, which can not only integrate various devices and technologies to realize classroom multimedia teaching, but also have obvious advantages such as immediacy, interactivity, large amount of information and personalized teaching function. People often refer to this kind of computer with "visual" function and its network technology as general multimedia technology.

2. With the function of "virtual reality", this computer multimedia technology not only has the function of "seeing and hearing", but also has the function of making people do things with their hands, giving full play to people's sensory organs such as "touch, body, movement and balance", so that people can learn knowledge and master skills in doing things.

Fourth, the application of computer distance education must be strengthened in China's education field.

1. Computer distance education is the development trend in the international education field.

The Internet is developing very fast, and its penetration rate is high in developed countries and regions. The United States, Britain, Finland, Sweden and other countries have put forward the Internet-based distance education plan and started to implement it gradually. However, these distance education plans launched by developed countries are not limited to the fields of basic education and higher education, but an important means to improve the quality of the people through modern means. Faced with this international trend, China's education management departments and educators should not lag behind, but should follow the international advanced educational concepts, educational means and methods.

2. Implementing computer distance education is the need of China's national conditions. As a developing country, China is short of educational resources, and the existing educational resources are far from meeting the demand. Conventional measures and methods, such as building schools and increasing the number of schools, require too much investment and cannot solve problems in a short time, especially the popularization of higher education.

3, the implementation of computer distance education is also the need of teaching reform. As we all know, China's educational resources are not only in short supply, but also extremely uneven in development. Using distance education can eliminate poor schools and weak schools, realize the sharing of educational resources with certain procedures, break the unbalanced situation of educational resources, and expand the scale of education in a relatively fast way and method.

4. Using the distance education system can also improve the national quality and realize the purpose of "lifelong education".

Five, computer distance education must strengthen the application of multimedia technology.

Online resources of distance education are very important, and there is no way out simply by repeating. In order to solve this problem, the author thinks that multimedia technology must be used reasonably.
