From April 26th to May 28th, a series of 12 major cases of gang rape and robbery occurred in Hong En, Chen Qingji, Datun and Qitai in Zhecheng County. This has brought great pressure to the police in Zhecheng County.
After analysis, Zhecheng county police decided to combine this 12 case for investigation.
Shangqiu Daily reported on July 7, 2007 that Wang Jie, the squadron leader of this big case, and Sun Hongzhi, the squadron leader of No.5 Middle School, told the task force that Zhang Zhenfeng, from Tianzhuang Village, Yanghukou Township, Luyi County, was idle on weekdays and had no legitimate income, but gambled and ate. Recently, he took out nearly 20,000 yuan in cash to pay off gambling debts, and often mixed with some irresponsible people, staying up all night.
The police found that Zhang Zhenfeng's residence was just across the river from Hong En Township, Zhecheng County, and his language was similar. He is familiar with the topography of Hong En, Chen Qingji, Daxie and other towns, and has a large motorcycle at home, which matches the tools of the suspects in this series of cases. The task force analyzed that Zhang Zhenfeng was suspected of committing a major crime.
On June 3, 2007, Zhang Zhenfeng was harvesting wheat at home, and Zhang Zhenfeng was driven away by the local authorities for something.
According to Shangqiu Daily, "Zhang Zhenfeng confessed that he, together with Guo Xinkui, Guo Hui and Liu Chao, committed more than 0/0 robberies and rapes in Zhecheng County within one month. A year later, the case was heard in Shangqiu Intermediate People's Court. Zhang Zhenfeng admitted rape and robbery and was sentenced to death with a two-year suspension; Guo Hui admitted rape and robbery and was sentenced to life imprisonment; Guo Xinkui refused to plead guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment; Liu Chao and Liu Chuanjun denied rape and admitted robbery, and were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of 15 years.
In June 2008, Shangqiu Intermediate People's Court made a first-instance judgment: Zhang Zhenfeng was sentenced to death with a two-year suspension; Guo Xinkui and Guo Hui were sentenced to life imprisonment, while Liu Chuanjun and Liu Chao were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment 15 years. Five people, including Zhang Zhenfeng, appealed separately. In August 2009, the Higher People's Court of Henan Province decided to send it back for retrial on the grounds of "unclear facts and insufficient evidence". However, the retrial has not yet been held.
A month ago, the Zhang Zhenfeng incident took a major turn. Wang who was imprisoned for other crimes was found to be the real murderer of rape and robbery. Wang confessed to the fact that he had committed a crime together.
