Huang Jiyu's erudition, intelligence, virtue and art
Friends and students who are familiar with Huang Jiyu almost agree that he is a knowledgeable man who is proficient in Chinese and Western arts, calligraphy, chess and sports, full of energy and high efficiency. Mr. Yang carefully studied his diary, wrote The Diary of Huang and His Wannian Mountain, and called him a "great scholar". The following paragraphs are mainly extracted from several related articles to introduce his erudition and virtue.

Huang studied Chinese studies when he was a teenager, and he has a deep foundation. 1936, when he went to Sun Yat-sen University again, he was over half a year old, giving classes to students from three colleges of arts, science and engineering. His interest in research gradually shifted to the study of China. During his stay in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, he served as the head of the Department of Mathematical Astronomy at Sun Yat-sen University in Shi Ping, northern Guangdong. According to his student and then president Zhang Yun, "Students from the Chinese Department of Qingdongdi College of Literature, more than ten miles away, were invited to teach parallel prose. Teacher Huang is very indulgent when he jumps up. He often says,' This kind of voluntary homework is more interesting than those who get paid.' He said to the students in class, "The dean can be improper, but parallel prose must be taught." When he was in parallel prose class, he "clapped his hands and hit the board with his feet in a cadence and melodious Chaozhou accent, even his eyes narrowed and his head kept drawing circles." Everything written on the blackboard is seal script. Fast and well written. It's really an iron hook. Why write seal script? He said,' Senior China students should study!' He Qixun, a student who has listened to his class, said: "It's really like sitting in the spring breeze, like drinking, enjoying the influence of literature and art all the time." In addition, he also set up the course of Shuowen Research, and selected books such as Thirteen Classics, Selected Works of Zhaoming and Zitongzhi Bamboo Slips, focusing on phonology, characters, exegesis and dialects. He is the author of "On the blackboard" and "Chaozhou Eight-tone Misreading Table". He "loves to read parallel prose and also likes couplets. In his diary, he not only selected a large number of predecessors' couplets, but also wrote many antitheses, aphorisms and sets of sentences. He is also interested in riddles and wine lists that can fully reflect the exquisite characteristics of Chinese characters. "

Huang has the habit of keeping a diary. "He kept a diary meticulously for decades. The calligraphy is beautiful, the dictionary is elegant, and the content is eclectic: or remember the calculation method of advanced mathematics, or remember the proud steps of chess, or describe your life and the feelings of the country, or tell the scene in front of you, where he is happy, and write it down in a hurry. " Why did he keep a diary for many years? In the preface to the seventh volume of Wannian Mountain Diary, he concluded that there are "three gains" in writing a diary. In short, it means that "memorizing diaries can save money for forgetting, collect them in time, turn them into flesh and blood, sort out gains and losses, and learn lessons, with many benefits." Liang Shiqiu (1902- 1987), his colleague at Shandong University, said: "His diary is spread out on the table, so I don't avoid being peeked. I occasionally glance at a page or two and deeply admire its delicacy and permanence. He likes to treat primary schools and pays special attention to the physical structure of words, so he often uses ancient Chinese between writing. " "Because they are all written in classical Chinese, some are gorgeous and rich, and there are many parallel essays. Many ancient and modern characters or interchangeable characters are used in the article, and most of them have no punctuation or punctuation marks. If the reader does not have a certain knowledge of philology, it is almost a thorn and there is no way to start. " "Mr. Cai Yuanpei once said:' Professor Ren Chu's diary, such as handing in pears and dates, must be proofread by various professionals.' "

The diary that Huang Ji encountered before 1926 has disappeared, and a few of them have been lost since he hit the rocks and fell into the water when he went south on a seagoing ship that winter. There are still 24 volumes of Wannian Mountain Middle School Diary, 3 volumes of Buqi Mountain Pavilion Diary, Yin Shu Mountain Pavilion Diary 15 and Mountain Prison Diary 1 volume. These works are mainly preserved by his third son, Professor Huang (1921-1998). Later, after consulting with his brothers, Mr. Huang handed it over to the "Cultural Celebrity Archives" of Chaoshan Historical and Cultural Research Center for permanent preservation in the mid-1990s.

Calligraphy is also Huang's strong point. "Huang Shi studied calligraphy, and then read widely, especially the study of steles, and absorbed the essence of Zhang Heinv's stele, forming a healthy and elegant calligraphy style." "As a famous calligrapher in the north and south of the great river, ... seal script, official script, truth, grass and salt are wonderful. Its calligraphy is elegant and unique, or unique. " "He often writes books at people's request, and he can get more than 20 papers a day when he is dripping." During the Anti-Japanese War, in Shi Ping, "those who stand in the snow and ask questions in the name of longing for an encounter will rub their heels on their shoulders."

Huang "loved chess since childhood, with high quality and fine skills, and once summed up the formula of' ruthless, accurate, stable and patient'". "When I was in Guangzhou and Hong Kong, I played against famous players in Guangzhou and Hong Kong, and it was often a draw." Liang Shiqiu said: "What is more common in his diary is the chess score. He has been inculcating this story for a long time. He can often play chess without a board, that is, he can recite all the numbers after playing chess with the board. Therefore, every time he is proud of the game, he will slowly write it in his diary. He has visited famous domestic chess players, and his chess skills can be imagined. " Besides, I also like sports. "When I was young, I liked fencing, was good at horseback riding and liked football. When I was in Japan, I won the honorary prize of fencing competition. " "When I was in Qingdao University, I was asked to be the law enforcement referee of the student football match."

Huang Jishou is not only knowledgeable in literature, science, art and sports, but also supports the younger generation and has high moral character. Zhang Yun said: "Huangshi is a master of Chinese and Western learning, with extraordinary virtues. So fast is sincere and makes people happy to get close. " In the 1940s, he went to Sun Yat-sen University for the third time, nearly sixty years old. In addition to being the head of the Department of Mathematics and Astronomy, he is also the secretary of the principal's office. At this time, the principal (agent) is his student Zhang Yun. Zhang said, "When I was in college, Master Huang condescended to leave a record. No matter big or small, I will discuss modestly because of my authority, which lightens my concern for affairs and increases my enthusiasm for progress. He often says to people,' shine on you, I want to be an assistant and achieve great things.' Gratitude is beyond words, sincere and warm. I can only respect my teacher as much as I can and act like a father. "Zhang added:" When I was in office, all letters and inscriptions were written by Huangshi. Although I said a word, the recipient was rewarded. I often apologize for taking away other people's beauty, but Master Huang often quotes the writing and entertainment habits of China society as comfort. Haier even replaced negative comfort with positive encouragement, saying,' If you have a future, you can do anything in the world. You have a great talent. Work hard and read more books, and you will naturally succeed.' His son-in-law Zhong You once asked him, "Why do you work as a secretary?" He replied:' There are precedents for teachers to enter the shogunate since ancient times.' "

Huang Jishou is tall and vigorous, dignified and serious, but not daunting. Usually, he likes to wear cloth robes. He sewed a pocket on the left and right sides of his gown chest, one long and thin, the other short and wide, one for pens, pencils or chalk, and the other for glasses. He said it was for the convenience of enterprising, and it was also his unique style. She has a high voice and belongs to Guangzhou Mandarin. "He is generous, hospitable and friend-oriented. Both arts and sciences are involved, and their footprints are all over the country. He has made many friends with him. " Liang Shiqiu said: "Between friends, especially after drinking a little wine, he was full of heroism and laughed. He knows the most jokes and has all kinds of meat and vegetables. Everyone present is absolutely amazing and even spits. Our friends in Qingdao are known as the eight immortals in wine, and Mr. Wang is one of them. "

Huang's ex-wife Chen has three sons and two daughters; In the second room, Cai gave birth to four sons, 1 daughter. He has seven children, three girls and seven boys. They all worked in Guangzhou or Chenghai as adults. Most of them have been engaged in university, middle school and primary school education, and now most of them have passed away.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, on June1945 65438+1October 2 1 day, Huang unfortunately fell into the water on his way back to Guangzhou from Beijiang River, and the news of his sudden death quickly spread to teachers and students in various colleges of Sun Yat-sen University. Everyone is deeply sorry for this tireless teacher with both arts and sciences. Friends and relatives are friendly, and many of them make elegiac couplets to express their grief. Lao She (1899 ——1966) wrote an elegy saying: "A man of great learning is really a strange man, and a man of high integrity is perfect." Celebrities such as Dai (1890- 1949) and Zhu Jiahua (1893- 1963) also sent elegiac couplets. At that time, acting president Jin Zengcheng of Sun Yat-sen University, new president Wang Xinggong, primary president, provost and general manager He Chunfan composed Huang funeral committee, and held Professor Huang Renchu's memorial service in the auditorium of the old campus of National Sun Yat-sen University on Wen Ming Road 1945 16. Professor Zhang Yun, Commissioner of the Ministry of Education, presided over the ceremony. "After the memorial service, funeral committee decided to organize Professor Huang Renchu's works publishing committee to raise scholarship funds as a memorial. Zhang Yun said, "Nineteen literary and artistic works of Huangshi's life are recorded in his diary. Reading his diary today, no matter the whole article, is extremely wonderful and I can't get tired of reading it. ..... After the memorial service, I propose to photocopy all his diaries. However, due to the current material conditions, it is not easy to do this. As a result, it was decided that there were permanent works and other single words in the diary, which were printed first and listed as one of the series of Sun Yat-sen University. "Later, due to factors such as going abroad, domestic turmoil, financial difficulties, etc., Huang Wenji was delayed to 1949. When Zhang Yun returned to China and became the president of Sun Yat-sen University again, he published "Notes of Mr. Huang Renchu (National Sun Yat-sen University Series)" on August 1949. The publication funds were donated by the Guangzhou Alumni Association of Wuhan University as a tribute to Mr. Huang.

1February 8, 947, the national government issued a special order to praise Huang. The full text is as follows: "Professor Huang of National Sun Yat-sen University has lofty aspirations and profound knowledge. He has been engaged in education all his life and has been enlightened by scholars for forty years. During the national disaster, he moved with the school, studied hard and recited without polishing. After the victory, I returned to Guangdong. Unfortunately, there is no water and no earthquake. I am deeply sorry, and should be clearly praised to show respect for the elderly. This order. " This is the second mathematician praised by the government in the history of our country. The first mathematician was Hu Mingfu, who died in 1927. In the 1960s, Sun Yat-sen University had a motion to publish Mr. Huang's collected works, asking Mr. Huang to make a preface, which was interrupted by the ten-year turmoil of the "Cultural Revolution" and has not yet been published.
