Hukou, also known as household registration, is the general name of hukou and population, with family as hukou and population as population. The carrier of household registration is the household registration book, which is a legal document made by the household administration department of the public security organ to record and retain the basic information of the registered population. Hukou is a legal concept with a history of more than 2,000 years in China. Cihai (version 1989) has six interpretations of the meaning of household, two of which are generalizations and abstractions of the concept of household in household registration management. In China's current household registration management, those who set up a household as a unit, that is, those who are related by blood marriage or adoption, are called family households, while those who set up a household with people who are not related by blood, that is, those who live together in government agencies, organizations, schools, enterprises and institutions or public dormitories, are called collective households. Family household is the most important form of household registration management. Hukou is also a legal concept, and the combination of Hukou began in Historical Records written by Sima Qian in Han Dynasty, and it has been used ever since. Family is a social group composed of people. Only one person in the family can be called a family. Man is the life entity of the family, and man takes his mouth as the unit of measurement. What we usually call hukou includes both family hukou and collective hukou. However, household registration must have a specific address. Only when the person and address are merged and registered by the household registration authority can they be legally recognized as household registration.
