Maanshan Institute of Technology is the only public higher vocational college in Maanshan, and the municipal government has invested heavily in the construction of the college. Its predecessor was Maanshan United University, which was founded in 1984. In 2008, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the Anhui Provincial People's Government, it was renamed Maanshan Institute of Technology.
