Many students are obsessed with the production and study of computer renderings, thinking that it is the "one skill" that undergraduates should learn most. However, many students have been in college for more than half of their lives and have not learned what landscape design is, thinking that the design of squares and the greening of communities are landscape design; I don't know how to really design, what is the basis? For them, theory is just something in books and is not practical. What the company wants in future employment is something practical.
Through my own study and practice, the author has some personal views on these phenomena:
Landscape design is a science and art about landscape analysis, planning and layout, design, transformation, management, protection and restoration. It is an applied discipline based on a wide range of natural sciences and humanities and arts. Special emphasis is placed on the design of land, that is, through the rational analysis of land and all human outdoor space-related problems, design solutions and methods to solve problems, and supervise the realization of the design. That is, because of its concept, it determines the future work scope of landscape design, from small courtyards to even indoor green space design, and then to national and regional planning and design; From pure natural ecological protection and restoration to spatial design of urban center. In particular, modern landscape design pays more attention to ecology and regionality, and demands us more harshly. A comprehensive, rich and comprehensive knowledge system is our essential requirement. The theoretical reserve and personal quality directly affect our future design works.
The author believes that in the process of learning, first of all, there must be dignity in the attitude of learning. As Milu once said, "Attitude is everything". Only when we have a correct attitude and are interested in the subject of landscape design can we calmly understand and study it.
Understand this sacred subject and use all resources to learn. Professional books and online materials in the library are the best learning resources, but when you know the professional knowledge, you must supplement the knowledge of other disciplines, because landscape design is the most comprehensive art, and elective courses of related knowledge are a good choice. Landscape design is a comprehensive subject, which combines the knowledge of design, planning, architecture, geography, ecology, aesthetics and other disciplines. To learn landscape design well and understand landscape design, you must have solid basic knowledge of the above subjects. Comprehensive and professional theoretical knowledge is the foundation, and the development of any discipline has theoretical support. Only with a certain understanding of these can we have "rules" to follow and understand why the master designed it like this. Read more books, such as Landscape Design: Specialty, Discipline and Education, Anti-planning Method, Landscape Design, Landscape: Cultural Ecology and Perception, Art of Survival, Landscape of Life, etc. At the same time, read a wide range of books and magazines. And get into the habit of writing summaries. It is necessary to consciously expand your knowledge. Design should not only consider beautiful things, but also pay full attention to comprehensive factors such as site planning, land resources and environmental protection. Knowledge of planning, design, architecture, plants, engineering, environment, history, culture and geography. Don't limit your study to one aspect, study and think from multiple angles, and strive to broaden your horizons. The wider our knowledge, the more detailed our way of thinking.
Design is a creative activity. If you want to design a good work, you must accumulate more at ordinary times. "A clever woman can't cook without rice"-without accumulation, there must be no design. "Read 300 Tang poems by heart, even if you can't write poems"-Design is like writing an article. Only when you have accumulated enough words, sentences, paragraphs, etc. Can you make a chapter? This requires everyone to read more excellent planning and design works at home and abroad, analyze, understand and classify their memories. The usual case accumulation is the accumulation of vocabulary sentences. Only with a certain accumulation can they be processed and reused, from quantitative change to qualitative change, and excellent planning and design works can be created. Compare your own works, analyze your feelings and learn from them.
Drawing is only a means of expression in our design, and we also have to master the commonly used design software such as Photoshop, autoCAD, coredraw, sketchup and 3Dmax. Instead of indulging in learning, making renderings is the ultimate goal of learning. Usually, I will strengthen the training of hand-drawing ability, practice pen drawing more, be familiar with water-soluble colored lead, water-based or oily markers, and master their use skills. These are still necessary.
Pay more attention to understand the trends of domestic and foreign industries and disciplines, such as the latest design concepts, the annual landscape conference of Peking University, and the landscape professional education and training of various schools. Maybe many students don't even know what IFLA is, and they don't know the important founders of China landscape design and their ideas. This is the sorrow of landscape design students. You can learn this information through the internet, magazines and communication with teachers and classmates.
Deliberately cultivate your own big vision content. If you have the opportunity, you can attend some professional conferences, competitions, exhibitions or go to some good landscape design works for on-the-spot investigation and experience. Landscape design has a certain understanding of place sense. It is also important to go out and have a look.
