The word hospice originated in the Middle Ages, and it is also called hospice service, hospice care, hospice care, rest care and so on. Refers to the comprehensive support and care provided by a team composed of people from all walks of life to terminally ill patients and their families, including physical, psychological and social aspects. Its purpose is to improve the quality of life of dying patients, walk the last journey of life comfortably without pain, and maintain and improve the physical and mental health of family members. Because hospice care inevitably involves palliative care of various symptoms, it is often synonymous with palliative care in the field of oncology.
Generally, we will carry out hospice care from the following aspects:
First, the direction of hospice care
1. Physical care: relieve illness through the care of medical staff and their families, and improve physical fitness with a natural and healthy diet. 2. Care of the heart: Through the establishment of ideas, psychological problems such as fear, uneasiness, anxiety, complaint and care can be alleviated, so that they feel at ease and relieved.
3. Taoist care (or spiritual care): looking back at life through religious theories and methods, seeking the meaning of life or establishing the value of life, such as eternal life, ascending to heaven, going to the West, etc.
Second, the concept of hospice care
1. Care-centered: This kind of patients do not prevent death by treating diseases, but provide comprehensive physical and mental care, moderate palliative treatment before dying, control symptoms, relieve pain, eliminate anxiety and fear, and obtain psychological and social support, so that they can get final peace. Therefore, hospice care is a change from cure-oriented treatment to symptomatic treatment;
2. Safeguarding human dignity and rights: Medical personnel should pay attention to safeguarding the value, dignity and rights of patients. In hospice care, patients should be allowed to maintain their original lifestyle, try their best to meet their reasonable requirements, safeguard their personal privacy and rights, and encourage patients to participate in the formulation of medical plans. Respecting the dignity of life and the rights of dying patients fully embodies the purpose of hospice care;
3. Improve the quality of life of terminally ill patients: provide a comfortable, meaningful and promising life for terminally ill patients, spend warm time with their families under the condition of controllable illness, and let patients experience the warmth of the world in the last stage of their lives;
4. Strengthen death education to make them accept death;
5. Provide comprehensive holistic nursing: provide 24-hour nursing service for patients and care for their families.
