Gu and "giving lectures"
1943 at the beginning, I signed up for the "Expeditionary Force". The motivation for joining the expeditionary force at that time was the frustration of working in the local area. I know that I not only offended some poor people, but also unintentionally offended some local ruffians and bandits, fearing that I would suffer in the future. Besides, even if you work carefully here all your life, you are just a frog in the well, and you can't make it in the apprentice. Why don't you take this opportunity to go out and make a break? If the opportunity is good, maybe you can mix a prominent position, return to your hometown and shake the whole village. At the end of March1Republic of China, it was heard that the * * * authorities were recruiting volunteers to go abroad for expeditions. The registration place is at the rear offices of the Chinese Expeditionary Force. Because I am familiar with Wanxian, I went to Wanxian to register at my own expense. Who knows Wanxian, Sichuan, because I didn't have the certificate of active duty soldiers, I didn't get in. After returning to Laoguan Temple, I am eager to go abroad. After the Spring Festival, I took the original certificate from the Sixth Training Department, and then went to Wanxian County, falsely claiming that I was the active teacher of the Sixth Training Department of the Guard Corps of the Third Division of the 2 1 Army.
1March, 943, we went from Wanxian to Liangshan and flew to Zhanyi, Yunnan to give lectures. After waiting for a few days, nothing happened, and then I was informed to attend the class at the reception desk of Chongqing Expeditionary Force. On this day, Gu, a member of the * * Military Commission, made a speech to the effect that in order to safeguard the integrity of the country and live and work in peace and contentment, you responded to the call of the Chairman and went abroad to fight the enemy. According to the "United Nations" (referring to China, Britain, the United States and other countries. China sent 40,000 troops to Southeast Asia and South Asia to fight the Japanese, not because of the decision of the United Nations established after the Second World War. I went to two batches before, and now I am fighting in northern Myanmar. The person you are going to report to the North Myanmar headquarters first, which will be assigned by the reception station of the United Nations Army of China, the United States, Britain and the Soviet Union. All you have to learn are mechanized modern weapons, and your equipment, including food, will be handled in accordance with United Nations regulations. After you go, you should study hard, improve your combat skills and win at an early date. We must also be prepared to quell the civil strife, and then it will be a complete victory. In Gu Zai's speech, although there was no obvious mention of * * *, we know what he meant by "pacifying civil strife".
As soon as Gu's "lecture" was over, we immediately returned to Kunming, and soon flew directly from Kunming Wujiaba Airport to Lamuga "United Nations Northern Command" on the India-Myanmar border. Then listen to the "North Myanmar Command" chief of staff (Jia was sent by China as the "North Myanmar Command" chief of staff). In his speech, he talked about the significance and role of the "Expeditionary Force" going abroad, which is similar to Gu's, but when it comes to the domestic situation, he said naked: "You are from China, and the domestic situation is even worse. China has "* * *" in all major strategic locations, and the Chairman intends to use two million troops to deal with * * *. This has provided military talents for this large number of troops. We have the full support of American President Roosevelt, and the victory belongs to us. "
In the "North Myanmar Expeditionary Force Sergeant Guidance Group"
On the second day after Jia Yuhui's "speech", after selection, I was assigned to the "North Myanmar Expeditionary Force NCO Teaching Group". The requirements for students to join the team are relatively high. First, it must be * * *, second, there must be 2-3 years of length of military service, and third, there must be nominations and walks from mountain divisions and regiments. To be an instructor in this team, in addition to the above conditions, you must have a diploma with military training, otherwise you don't have to. Because I was trained and certified in Xiangfan Normal University and Hubei "358" cadre training class before joining the army, I was not only elected to the NCO teaching team, but also trained as a junior officer.
More than 200 people were selected this time. When he left, he gave the American military uniform to Roosevelt and poured gasoline on all the military uniforms he had worn from China and burned them. The camp of the teaching corps is located in the forest in Lamuga area, and the camp is made of bamboo and tarpaulin. The teaching team is directly led by "North Myanmar Command". It not only trained junior military cadres for China's "expeditionary forces" who participated in the Indian and Burmese wars, but also sent some so-called military talents to China (many of them were repatriated during the subsequent training period).
Shortly after arriving at the military camp, Jiao (from Henan), Zhang Youlai (from Sichuan) and others were questioned by the team leader Zhang Jiezhi (major general level) and consulted our certificates. Then we were trained in the "North Myanmar Expeditionary Army Officers Corps" near the camp. Half a month later, I returned to the NCO Teaching Corps as the lieutenant district captain (the system of the Corps is that the Corps consists of three brigades, three squadrons and three district teams). All the students are sergeants and squad leaders. I can't see a civilian near the barracks. You can't eat any vegetables and fruits for a month, and life is very hard, so many students have emotions. The veterans clamored for retirement, while the recruits shouted that they had been cheated. In particular, soldiers who go there are not allowed to communicate with their families at will, and it is stipulated that "once every three months" has aroused great dissatisfaction among students. Some people even said, "What kind of training team is this? This is simply an army prison. "
There are many overseas Chinese in Lamuka, Yangon and Myitkyina. Many students are clamoring to visit, but the regulations in the military camp are very strict, so we can't all go. In order to appease their emotions, they can only go to a few people at a time and have to fly. Overseas Chinese are very enthusiastic when they see their relatives going to the motherland. Although not many people go there every time, they still spend a lot of money, such as setting off firecrackers, scattering paper scraps, sending watermelons, sending fruits or sugar and so on. I remember one time, a group of more than ten people visited historical sites near Yangon, and found a poem carved by China tourists at the top of Tallinn: "I urge you not to leave the bird alone, and hope your mother will return to her nest. If her mother dies, why don't you feel sad? " At that time, we were very moved by this poem and copied it in our notebook.
The content of military training, the whole corps has steps, guns, communications, engineers and armor. , each has its own emphasis. However, the content of ideological education is a keynote. In addition to studying hard and making up my mind to destroy the Japanese aggressors and win, I often introduce the domestic situation to my classmates, saying that "the civil war is very tense and the Japanese aggressors are invading step by step." In particular, in addition to not resisting Japan, the Communist Army is still inciting workers, peasants, soldiers and students to make trouble everywhere, dividing land and property, giving the Japanese aggressors an opportunity to prepare for the civil war, and so on. Guided by this idea, guerrilla tactics are added to future training in order to deal with guerrilla warfare with guerrilla warfare. 1in April, 944, the above-mentioned 1000 graduates were all assigned to the new army fighting in India and Myanmar. The second batch of students was admitted in May. The teaching corps was changed into a teaching brigade with five squadrons. I was promoted to major and squadron leader of the first team. These students include students from China, on-the-job squad leaders sent by various domestic armies, and on-the-job squad leaders of the 52nd Army and the New Army fighting in India and Myanmar. In the second half of this period, the military camp moved to the forest area on the outskirts of Yidu. In order to meet the needs of the civil war, the training content of this period has also changed greatly, especially in the combat subjects, the original company and squad were changed to skirmishers. In the words of Cui Deqing, the deputy battalion chief (Korean, who later became the consul of "Korea" in Guangzhou), "the purpose of this reform is to conceal, to counterattack, and to give full play to the power of our modern heavy weapons and kill the communists." After intense training, almost all of the 1945 1 month and 1000 students were repatriated and assigned to domestic troops. The students in this issue went abroad in the name of "expedition", but actually they didn't even see the shadow of a Japanese.
1944 in the second half of the year, the war against Japan in the battlefield in northern Myanmar basically ended, but the country continued to send more troops here, especially strengthening the training of grassroots military cadres. 1in March, 945, I was also ordered to go to Kunming with Jia Yuhui, deputy commander of the New First Army, to receive new recruits. This time, our delegation has received more than 20 new students 120 from North Myanmar. These recruits were enlisted in Chiang Kai-shek's call for "100,000 educated youths to join the army" and were sent abroad for training as part of "100,000". In order to attract these people, they were all designated as staff sergeant before going abroad, and some education squad leaders who went abroad for one or two years were still staff sergeant, which also caused great contradictions. Obviously, these are all positive preparations for participating in the civil war.
Assigned to the "New Army Trainee Teaching Brigade"
1945 1 month, my "Teaching Brigade for Non-commissioned Officers of North Myanmar Expeditionary Force" was ordered to be incorporated into the New Army and renamed as "Teaching Brigade for New Army Students". The camp also moved from Yidu to the forest near Dingjiang, 30 miles from Myitkyina. It is sparsely populated by Irrawaddy River in the south and Dingjiang River in the north. After we went there, we built a new barracks, exploded with medicine bags, leveled the soil with a mountain opener, and leveled some small forests. Half a day's practice and half a day's building of barracks are extremely painful. Eating is a fire for five people and a group of ten people. Every day, we can't see vegetables and miscellaneous grains. We sleep at night and hang the camp bed on the tree. Beasts howl around the station, and mosquitoes can't open it. Or build a pile of sand in the forest, dig a nest in the pile, and people sleep on tarpaulins. Some junior and middle-level personnel we went to couldn't help thinking: since the war in northern Myanmar has all ended, why should we build a military camp here? It seems that this place is used as a station station and training base to deal with * * *. But we still don't know the specific purpose. Soon, the United Nations Army, the American Army, the Indian Army and the Kara Army came again. Dingjiang area is full of barracks made of bamboo and tarpaulin. This makes people even more suspicious, and I don't know what the intention is. It was not until a month later that I learned that these foreign troops were on standby to return home at any time.
Sun Liren, commander of the New Army, graduated from the American Western Military Academy and is an out-and-out pro-American faction. The troops going abroad are all equipped in the United States. No wonder Chiang Kai-shek sent him out of the United States in order to get closer to the United States and get more "American aid" through him. One day, Sun Liren led Jia Yuhui, the deputy commander (former chief of staff of North Myanmar Command), Zheng Dongguo, Chen Mingren, Li Hong and Pan Yukun, the chief of staff, to the teaching brigade to give lectures to the students. He said: "... Although the Japanese aggressors in northern Myanmar have been basically eliminated, they are still fighting tenaciously in vast areas of China, and the Communist Army is fighting our army in more and more places. Therefore, you should speed up the study and mastery of modern American weapons and new methods of warfare, and prepare for new combat tasks ... "
In order to increase the strength of Myanmar's "Expeditionary Force" and stabilize the military spirit of looking forward to returning day and night, the relevant authorities used deception and dehumanization to deceive and hurt young people. 1in March, 945, Jia Yuhui, deputy commander, led a group of junior and middle-ranking officers to return to China to pick up soldiers. Among the more than 1000 young people who accepted "going abroad voluntarily", most of them knew nothing about the situation abroad. Under the propaganda of * * * being pro-American and worshipping beauty, they were deceived and yearned for America. In Wanxian, Sichuan, I selected a group of soldiers with the so-called "volunteer book". This time, I chose a group of Hubei villagers, especially Yunxi villagers, such as Lu, Ruan, Meng Fandi, Liu Changshou, Ke, Zhang Yuande, Xie and Zhang Youcai. These people kept asking me, "Did the Youth Army go abroad to study the mechanized American army?" But how should I answer? You can only say "yes" against your will. Some young people naively asked, "Are we required to study the Air Force and Navy in Washington, USA?" I can only say that I don't know about it yet. We will take you to Myanmar first, and then we may assign you according to your wishes. So these young people were cheated out of the country. After arriving in Myanmar, everything was not what they imagined. They made a scene all day, but they couldn't escape. Because of the combination of coercion and persuasion, they had to reluctantly accept training. The content of the training is mainly positional warfare and guerrilla warfare, and the "Communist Army" is openly regarded as an "imaginary enemy". During this period, soldiers who went abroad first or later were eager to return home, feeling uneasy and lax in military discipline. Some officers and men who go to town on leave pester the white girl as soon as they see her. In order to comfort the army and solve the needs of officers and men's sexual life, the new army adopted the way that the Japanese army took military prostitutes. At the behest of Sun Liren and others, he sent people back to China to trick 100 young women in the name of learning modern communication technology and engaging in cultural work. Living in the suburbs of Myitkyina after going abroad is called "comfort team", which is actually * * *. The officers and men of all units and their applications shall be arranged by the competent department and the money shall be deducted uniformly. There are also some foreign troops nearby, especially the American army, which are very savage and they are also vying to go. A few young people who went abroad committed suicide by jumping into the river because they refused to receive Chinese and foreign officers and soldiers (this "comfort team" was not dissolved until they returned to China).
April to July, 1945, is the rainy season in Myanmar. It rains three times a day, and a cloud is a heavy rain. It's raining and basking in the sun. It hurts. Although the weather is bad and most students are ill, the training is still stepping up. Some patients have to take exercise and take part in field training. If you don't go, send someone to tow it. Food is canned food and pea petals. It's really hard to swallow. And the meal is limited to three minutes, so the students are more eager to go home. On a big tree, someone carved such a poem with a knife: from the army expedition to Myanmar, there are barren hills everywhere, the troops camped in the forest, and the plane couldn't sleep! "
